You gotta admit, they got a vaguely similar shape and both got side engines. Also the plating texture is vaguely similar. Also my brain might work in odd ways.

Pods on the sides are hangars; the shape is only very vaguely similar. You puzzle me.

Well don't feel too bad about it, its a shape that makes sense so there are countless similar ones out there (3 tube scheme - 2 small 1 big in the middle). Besides apart from the top view they have NOTHING else in common.

And yesterday I had someone tell me that my Noctis (https://sgtbenton.files.wordpress.com/2 ... rimae1.png) looks like Serenity. That I can kinda get, but... well... the 'two pods and a larger central hull' argument covers most sci-fi vessels known to humanity at tthis point.

That one looks even less like Serenity.

Says the guy who compared it to a battlestar.

I'm having trouble thinking of one from Star Wars. There are enough ships that probably one exists, but I can't name it off the top of my head.

I don't even know what a battlestar is.
Is that what they call spaceships in Battlestar Galactica or something?

Yes. "Battlestar" is the catchall term for BSG-'Verse hybrid carrier/battleships.

Roughly equivalent to large warships in Star Wars being called Star Destroyers. Battlestars tend to focus more on starfighter ops than direct combat.

In the original BSG, anyhow.

In the new BSG, battlestars are consistently tougher (and arguably, have more firepower) than Cylon basestars. Certainly direct-combat capable. That said, their strike wings are their main arm; mainly because fighters can reach out and touch someone where your guns can't.
