Wings of The Schmetterling

Old stuff:
Spoiler:
The first ship I ever built was on my home server. It was a diplomatic ship
(surprisingly). It looked horrible by my standards today. In the end, it was
destroyed by a mining project, taking place directly underneath it.

The second ship I built was also on this server. Then I transferred it to
another world. Then another. Then another. And finally, it came to rest inside
another ship. The ship was supposed to be a cruise ship (but was probably too
big), and the ship that held it was supposed to be an assault ship (but was too
small). The outside of this cruise ship looked horrible, but I liked the
inside, it wasn't too bad.

Image
The cruiser

Now, the assault ship was never finished, but I still have the world, so I
could if I wanted to. The problem I had with it was finding ways to fill up all
the space inside. Back then, it seemed that all of my ships had a large
entrance area, with connecting rooms and stairs. It was, I must say, an
interesting design technique that I didn't use on my most recent ships. Another
interesting feature of this assault ship was that I used a railway system to
get from one end of the 120 block long wing section to the other.

Image
The assault ship

On this world, correctly named "Spaceships, bases, and stuff", there
were two other ships: a frigate, and a cargo ship. Unfortunately, the frigate
was destroyed in a nuclear explosion, but I never liked the look of it anyway.
The cargo ship still stand (or floats, rather), and was my second good looking
ship (the first being the assault ship).

Image
A view of my cargo ship, over the wing of the assault ship

Next came a whale. A really big whale: made of metal, attempting to impersonate
a dreadnought. It is true, I, with the help of a friend, built a dreadnought
that looks like a giant whale. I didn't like the look from the outside, or the
inside, but I did like the complex arrangement of Redstone that meant you could
open every airlock, level, docking clamp, and bomb from the control room.
Ingenious, really.

I built a small ship on "World X". If you saw those pictures of the giant
cavern, and futuristic garden on the Futurecraft page, that is World X. The
ship was only the size of a Frigate (or even a drop-ship), but it was my first
ship that could actually fly, thanks to the Zeppelin Mod. Unfortunately, it was
destroyed in a glitch.

I built the framework for an Ancient War ship, but due to Mod complications,
the world committed suicide, and doesn't work. I still have the 1.5 meter long
drawing for the framework though, if anyone is interested.

I
don't know whether this counts as a ship, but I built a space-station. It was
one of my favourite constructions, but I did use MCedit heavily. Unfortunately,
I lost the station in the 9km long bedrock plain it was in (there is also a
high hance an ocean generated over the top of it).

History of Alteran Aerospace

Early voyages and the founding of the Empire
Spoiler:
For the Alterans, year 1 was the invention of space-travel. The first time they passed Altera's atmosphere, the entire planet stopped in celebration. Within a hundred years, they had explored and set up colonies within their home system, Domum. Within 150 years, they were planning and building their first interstellar ships. In the year 159, they sent out 10 massive colony vessels, with the mission of establishing an Alteran presence on planets the deemed may be habitable. 5 of these ships were successful in establishing colonies.

Within a thousand years, the fledgling empire had a network of over two dozen planets. The economy was booming, unrest was unheard of, and military unneeded.

I haven't built any of the ships here yet, I will have several ships that are realistic and scientifically feasible with today's technology. This will be one of them:
Image
The Invention of The FTL Drive and The Knul War
Spoiler:
The year 2030 for the Alterans was a momentous one. For it was during this year that the once-thought-impossible procedure of achieving faster than light speeds was finally discovered. FTL engines could be made small enough to fit in a yacht, meaning that the Alterans no longer need to make massive, complicated, and fragile ships. They could now travel to the colonies in a matter of weeks, not years.

Naturally, a spree of exploration followed. Designs on the FTL drive were improved, with it came advancements in shielding technologies and long-range communication and detection.

But nothing can last forever. After thousands of years of peace, the invention of FTL caused war. The Alterans became divided between themselves. With all money being focused on expansive colonizing and exploration projects, the Empire overextended, and fell into recession. The working class of the Empire revolted against the rulers, seeing that they still lived comfortable lives, blaming them for the harsh conditions they now faced.

Without the money to build warships, the Novians (as the working class's new military called themselves) used spies and guerrilla tactics to steel the Empire's ships.

These are the main ships used in the Knul War:

Terra Class Drop ship:
Spoiler:
Built by the Empire as a method of ferrying and landing troops, it was designed as a surface-to-space vehicle. It has no FTL drive of its own, and is instead carried or towed by larger ships. After the war, the Empire lost most records of it, and could no longer produce them (that means no download).

Role: Troop ferrying
Dimensions: 22(l) 14(w) 7(h)
Armaments: 1x50mm railgun (10,000 bullet storage capacity)
Compliment: 10x humanoid robotic pods, or 10x seats.
Crew: 2
Speed: 10km/s (cruising) 50,000km/s (max)

Image

Astral Class Frigate
Spoiler:
Designed by a company that usually produces private yachts, the Astral Class is possibly the most beautiful death-machine the Empire ever built. It's speed and maneuverability made it the prime ship for ambushes, and it was the center for many victories and many losses for both sides.

Role: Quick-response and guerrilla warship
Dimensions: 41(l) 19(w) 9(h)
Armaments: 5x10gw laser turrets
Compliment: none
Crew: 2-3
Speed: 50km/s (cruising), 150,000km/s (max), x100 (FTL)

Image
Copernicus Class Cruiser
Spoiler:
The Empire built this as an all-purpose fighting machine. While the ship may appear sleek on the outside, inside it is a cramped, bustling powerhouse. It could handle pretty much every situation that the Novians or Empire threw at it. It formed the back-bone of both navies. At times, it was used in ambushes, in others raids, in others still for planetary assault.

Role: all-round
Dimensions: 95(l) 29(w) 12(h)
Armaments: 2x 50mm railgun (100,000 bullet storage capacity), 2x 10gw laser turrets, 1x torpedo tube (9 torpedo storage capacity), 6 bomb bays (54 bomb storage capacity)
Compliment: 2x drone-type fighters
Crew: 7-10 (usually 8)
Speed: 100km/s (cruising), 200,000km/s (max), x200 (FTL)

Warning: updated OP ends here!
Spoiler:
Well folks, I have been building a lot! Currently in the works I have:

An orbital satellite (interior pending) I have another topic for it. Somewhere...

A drone carrier, similar in the "Mincar" (except all new and shiny, and bigger) (exterior mostly done, interior requires refurbishing complete re-do from Pat's old one.) Images will be shown on completion, maybe even a video.

The drones for the drone carrier. Images pending...

The shuttle for the drone carrier.

A cargo ship (which Danice posted some pictures of to advertise his server).

However, I have collected images for my shuttle, and will post them here:

Exterior:
Spoiler:

Although it isn't the prettiest of my ships, it is a hard-working vessel. It can hold up to 20 people (16 passengers and 4 crew). It also has a specific dock in the top of the Drone Carrier (which you may recognize from the server). It has two class 1 lasers for defense, as well as a shield.

Now for the interior:
Spoiler:

The following secondary door is broken. I have fixed it since.

New giant mech of DOOM!!

Lore (for when I finish the OP):

It is rumoured that while on a drunken rampage, a councilor commissioned this design as a "bit of fun". That is why it's official name is TS-137 Gian Mech of Doom. Despite its unscrupulous origins, it became a staple of the Alteran Armed Forces, and was feared throughout the galaxy.

Dimensions: 67(l) 55(w) 35(h)
Armaments: 3x double-10gw lasers, 2x double-20gw lasers, 1x500mm anti-building cannon (100 shell storage capacity), BIG CLAWS OF DOOM!
Compliment: 2x Axiom-class speeder
Crew: 2 pilots + gunner (with optional extra 3)+ 2 speeder drivers
Speed: 20km/h (flat terrain)

Could I politely point out that some images are 403 forbidden'd and that there are some random
tags in the post?
That aside, I love the ships.

Mackeroth using wool on a vehicle? o.o

LJS, I noticed that as well, and I almost made a post saying that. But I couldn't get it worded right, so I didn't.

JEDIT: If you're gonna write it like that, at least do it right.

VINEDIT: I intentionally used all lower caps so I could use the Yoda emote.

That mech of doom, its kind of small...

CaptainSporatic: Don't worry, I'll fix it up later. Or sometime in the next 3 years....

Shadowcat: The download is right there, feel free to use it. Just give me credit.

LJS: Yes, I know. But it doesn't need to be air tight like a ship does, and it needed to be red because blue made no sense.

Blockman: Maybe, so why don't you build a bigger one that detailed with an interior and working weapons?

My quad in super detailed, if you take off the red wool you could see all of the machinery that powers the mech

That mech is not big or scary enough to have the word doom in its name.

Perhaps average sized mech of mild intimidation would be a more suitable name.

Apart from that it's pretty good, and interesting design.

Same with mine. Just take a good look at the underside.

With my new computer comes a greatly enhanced ability to use Chunky (like, 100x faster). So, I have a nice render of my mech, in different colours. Also visible are some ground forces I'm still working on (here they are two types of truck and a helicopter).

Image

The picture's actually 1000x1600, just click to enlarge.

You should take a closer picture of those Ground forces.
