That's not really a ship, though, so much as an apparatus.

The point is the shape of the engine.

The point is it's not a ship, which is defined as 'a manned spaceship used for interstellar travel.'

Interesting fact:
Alcubierre's (or however you spell it) design for a warp engine relied on the ship being a certain shape, guess what shape that was? It was ring with a rugby ball shape inside (for the benefit of the Americans out there, rugby is football, but without the adverts every 5 minutes and excessive body armour, so a rugby ball is te same shape as what you call a football)

When a jedi starfighter has the ring attached, it classifies, under that definition, as a ship.

I disagree with that. 'Starship' requires interstellar capability, but 'spaceship' does not. It isn't specified in this case, so a Delta-7 would qualify as a ship.

That's a union between a ship and an apparatus. The two together does not constitute a ringed ship. There are no ringed ships in Star Wars.

Doesn't look like a ring to me.

Then you have an awfully strange definition of 'ring'. It's broken in front, but there is pretty clearly a giant ring on that ship.

Ring - a typically circular band of metal or other durable material, especially one of gold or other precious metal, often set with gems, for wearing on the finger as an ornament, a token of betrothal or marriage, etc.

Circular - a closed plane curve consisting of all points at a given distance from a point within it called the center. Equation: x2 + y2 = r2 .

That is clearly not closed, therefore it is not a ring.

This is an example of a ship possessing a ring.

Note 'typically'.
