Poof or no poof?

Me and Des seem to disagree on how entity vehicles shall be destroyed. I say poof, he says leave behind a wreckage.
I say the wreckage is too complicated.

I am for wreckage, it would make alot more sense and look better. Also maybe you can get a few resources from the wreckage?

Explosion. Wreckage is too much work if we want it to work right - procedural pieces?

That said, making a big "kablam" and some fire and smoke all around would be easy and fun.

Metaworld-entities like spacecraft can actually leave wrecks. That's actually easy; just leave the ship there.

This isn't about looking better, this is about making it work.

It doesn't have to explode into a million pieces, just be a burnt chunk of a crippled vehicle lying around.

What about explosions which, depending on the amount of damage, leave salvagable wreckages behind?

I agree entirely

As do I. We can just have it leave behind a wreckage entity.

Actually, that's pretty easy. Scatter some "scrap" blocks during the explosion as fallingSandEntities. No entities or anything. Just a crater with some nice charred blocks that can be refined.

Its more interesting to see how we gonna make ship explosions, those will need wreckage gameplay-wise and you wont get away with just leaving some items behind.

Well, afaik, a ship is destroyed/disabled when the core is broken/depowered.
Anything that is still around at that point can remain as a wreck.
It just won't be able to fly anymore.
That also means that possibly you may still have people alive in your wrecks, depending on where and how the power supply and life support are installed.

Prob is its not fancy and actually as far as I know there are no cores, its not starmade , you can only build ships in shipyards which means that there is no need for a block to define what is a ship and what is not a ship.
