I found this while snooping around the internet to see if anything compares to the I.C.E.S.S (few things do, by the way), and I found this wonderful picture:

I personally quite like this design for fighters, what do you guys think?

I'd make the wings more even, not in that pattern of every second block missing.

Those issues aside, it looks cool.

It'd look cooler if the engine-wing thingies were oriented at 160 degree angles.

Looks nice, If it weren't so round I'd have a go. I would also make the wings more pointy, I like pointy.

Interesting fighter.
Now, what does it have to do with Mod content?

Inspiration as to how we design fighters

Futurecraft will have fighters and other vehicles. I think they will be modular, but they won't be built out of terrain blocks like big ships. There are technical reasons for this as well as aesthetic ones, but it's not worth going into detail on that.
The main thing is it would be hard to customize functionality at that scale if we treated it like ships.

We should craft fighters at special benches, like Flan's mod does, only with more choice, for example you choose your frame, colour, wings, engine, propulsion systems, weapons, and perhaps a few extra slots for if you want a bomber, then you stick it all into a bench and it churns out your fighter

I would prefer attaching the pieces directly to the vehicle rather than using the crafting bench.

We need another way to build-craft (new term I made up) larger objects that you shouldn't be able to carry in your inventory. Things like fighters, or large engine components, or missiles, etc.

Lol, we gotta stop letting you pick the names for things. That one's kinda taken. xD

But yeah, I think it would be quite neat having items too big to fit in your inventory. After all, people would be building fake storehouses anyway, so why not make them real?
Maybe we can have a forklift or a claw game-style crane to move things around...

Or, a facility where you stick the raw materials in, and you go into like a building mode, like you woul with making ships, and assemble the fighter like that, then wait for the machine to churn it out or something like that.

Perhaps the modules like wings and guns are placed on the ground, crafting in 3D outside the crafting table.
