It is possible to use it to make all UI immersive - say inventories, crafting and different UIs activated from it and also just a cool future to have an extra inventory slot square to the right of the favorites bar with the data pad icon (you cannot take it out). It is just a simple aesthetic cool future that actually you can use to activate the data pad itself - click on it in the inventory.

What about G.P.S. devices?

You'd need a GPS satellite or 3, which aren't handheld. That might go here, but could also go under space stuff. We'll just say datapad does it if there are satellites.
