You simply don't allow to save already made designs. If it uses someone else's design as base you cannot publish it.

Sounds too complex.

As far as distinguishing between 'modified' and 'original' designs.

To be honest I'm opposed to any schematic marketplace, for what it's worth. Ideally people will buy ships, not the plans to build them. Players could release schematics on the site for download by users, but a market for it ingame just seems unnecessary.

And if their ship blows up ? (will happen quite a lot), they can't go somewhere specific to buy it unless they have a ship already, that is why you spawn in a shipyard and have it ready to buy again.

How do you intend to build a starcraft without any supplies? They were on your ship, remember?

Unless you mean to tell me you have stockpiles, in which case why not just build/buy a backup ship in the first place?

Well that needs a deeper thought, especially how we handle rare materials , what is lost in (the rather frequent) deaths and what's not...

Or are we like in Dayz "screw this all you die you start from scratch" ?

More like Minecraft in that if you die with everything on you you're toast, better to have a secret cache somewhere if you're going solo, or be part of a faction so you can utilize their facilities and ships.

Yeah, there is no reason to complicate things beyond what Minecraft already does. You don't get anything when you respawn, but that doesn't prevent you from leaving things for yourself.

but there is an actual diffrence

when in normal minecraft you lose your stuff on the ground
most times you would go look for it
sometimes it fell into lava then you lost it forgood
or someone else took it then you fight them

but when you have a really big space that you can only go to when you have a vessel
your screwed
you cant like in normal minecraft hope to get your stuff back because its lost its certainly lost

so i think you should make some kind of free simple vessel
with low speed and no armor

to go look for your stuff

what about this

when you die in space
you get a menu in wich you can choose to go on a salvating ship
with this slow ship you can go to your old ship to save the remains

this can take a while so sometimes your ship is really lost
and you can also choose to just let it go

Salvage should be doable, and there is no requirement for stuff in space to dissappear as quick as it does in vanilla minecraft.

What would really be interesting is navigating through a huge debris field left over from a giant space battle. I'll have to run some benchmarks to see if that's feasible.

But let's explore that in a different thread. Topic is back to shipyards.

Problem is that your killer will probably get it, and it's not the diamond pickaxe that you loose (Which is already quite bad) but something you literally spent real days building towards, all your MC base destroyed, try to setup a nuke in your FTB lab ... That is literally all you own, you are left homeless.

Try setting up a nuke in your basement.

If you die, it's your own fault. You go into a venture knowing you're risking something. Going in a cave with full dia, for example; you could easily fall into a lava pool and have to start all over. That is, if you haven't stowed away an iron pick or two back in your chest. See what I'm getting at here?

No you don't get what I mean today do you ? I meant as comparison when you have to start from punching wood again, not grabbing your antimatter drill you made in your collider in the basement, all hours of work lost, and quite frequently actually .
