inb4 someone uses that post to justify removing everything ground-related.

Beats winding up in someone's signature.

When I said space dimension, I just meant space, I just think of it as a dimension for some reason, ignore it.
And while mechs may not be a good idea, other ground vehicles are still possible.

I might be able to do mechs with just java (as in no .obj files), but I am probably going to need to learn a little more about animation first, but I can work out the angles and vectors for leg movement now if needs be.

We probably don't need animated .obj files, we can do decent leg animations in java.

See you go negative again :[ , I'm just saying that if space is priority keep it priority, you can't do ground together with it cosue you lack resources (we actually have almost none ATM) and make it when you are done with space.
And the thread is not about this but rather getting to understand what the mod does.

I've said it in another thread - you don't want to understand what the mod is, you already know what you want it to be, and you've been waiting for someone to give 'space' as an answer so you can go out and say that. Ground is just as important as space here.

@prototype

Animation isn't part of the .obj format anyway, and .obj models will be fine. I just want to make sure that we get to control how animation works where we do use it, because there are several different methods available and we may want to use one or another as the situation requires.

Post your opinion here. And be specific please ...

A little bit, yes.

The future of space travel - dueling with massive interstellar warships
The future of ground combat - hordes of tanks and mechs clash, supplemented by infantry coated in heavy exoskeletons.
The future of minecraft, in a nutshell. Space is the final frontier, after all.

Futurecraft adds spaceships. Then it should add a good balanced combat system. Everything else can be left to the player.

Your list is in the wrong order.

How so?

The gameplay needs to be designed from the ground up to accomodate spaceships in as balanced a way possible rather than the other way around, lest the latter look shoehorned in. It wouldn't do to be fighting with swords and medieval gear while flying around in star-battleships...or would it? :o

Perhaps, but personal items like weapons and armor are much more conventional content, and compared to the big ticket items, they should be trivial to supply. While it's important everything fits together, I don't think that sort of gear will warrant the same level of planning that something like shipyards or the MMO aspects will.
