New dev team/java learning thread.

I was going to do a lesson plan thing, but everyone's progressed farther than i thought they would, so everyone get as much done as you can until this Thursday, and I'll figure out some sort of time-frame from there. I do want to do some of the end of chapter/whatever exercises together, but I think it's a bit redundant for chapter 1, considering how basic a lot of it is.

List of new devs(I'm probably forgetting some people, PM me if I have):
Spoiler:
Error
CMA
Tiel
Iv121
Tell
Prototype
Keon
Tacokingbob/TinkerPox
Solar/High Lictor Solaris
Desdenova/Saravanth

So ummmmm I've been out of the loop for a bit. When did we start up the new dev team? More importantly I can program, so I can help or something… * loses train of thought*

Add þorne Chrisson on skype, if you want to help. We're not replacing the old one, we're just trying to all get to a level where we can actually make the parts of futurecraft that don't include screwing around with render theory.

I can program stuff in java, too, so I might be able to help. I don't have skype (or a microphone), however.

No need in a mic, some ppl just use the chat there.

BTW for you and anyone else who join this thing you should be serious about joining it and not join just because its trending right now because it will get harder to keep up with and you will need to dedicate more time to it. If you know already you are going to bail out there is no point in spending time on this in the first place.

Pretty much this, it's going to take a few months(or at least a month) to get up to a decent level of knowledge, and then we need to start practicing before we can do anything with the actual MC code.

Anyway, add þorne Chrisson on Skype if you're still interested, you don't need a mic or whatever, although we do use voice calls sometimes so it would be good if you could hear us.

A month ? I think it will take more. BTW I have my reservations about the book that was proposed in skype last time (http://math.hws.edu/eck/cs124/javanotes6/). It is overcomplicating things early on making it harder to understand for beginners as well as introducing you to advanced material before basic materials, then going back to basic materials and so on.

It's what I used, and the best one I've come across. It is hard, but most people here already have some sort of experience with com sci, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I propably won't help after all, the Austrian school system is very good at keeping you busy.

Ok guys, we've gotten a bit off topic in the skype chat. High-level concepts are fine to discuss, but 70% of futurecraft isn't adding blocks or gun mechanics, it's the ships and ship travel, and we haven't really talked about that much.
