it is now fully working in game:

overall I'm pretty happy with this one, though I think I may add some detail to the engines similar to the little tips on the wing (the darker grey bits, those are individual shapes, not just the texture)

but now this is (practically) done, all I need to do is finish off the teams and its ready for a release

I forgot to mention I'm going on holiday for a few days, so it'll be delayed, and its version 2.0

also I've just added a little thing to the back to break the flat effect, but it still keeps the sleek profile.

and now I just need to remember its called the Scimitar now, not the Scythe

Add some gun mounts on the wings and maybe below the cockpit. The tail feels like part of it was cut off ...

Also for later ships you might consider a problem that the cockpit looks like paper thin because the glass is too close to the edge.

I have a major problem with default Minecraft glass in general. Is it possible to have translucent glass, like ice? Because that would totally make my day.

Well in texture packs the answer will be no, and I suspect that the same case goes for flan's mod.

The way it is rendered prevents alpha blending except for a few special cases. I have seen a mod before that did it, but I'm not sure exactly how they went about it.

Nope sorry, Flans mod doesn't allow it, but you can't see the glass texture from inside, but you can see the struts.
I don't like the texture very much either, as soon as I find a better way I'll do it.

There´s a lot of mods lately which introduce stained glass...

Minecraft uses two render layers: one for normal textured quads and another for blended surfaces like water and ice. The problem is that the blended layer is also drawn front-to-back, which prevents translucent objects from being seen through other translucent objects. It is done this way because that is how chunks are physically sorted for drawing, and is why you can't see water through ice. If you don't mind this graphical error, you can simply flag glass to draw on the second layer to allow it to be translucent. However, to avoid the error, the second layer needs to be drawn back-to-front.
