Tiel doesn't know much java code to my knowledge, you should probably be asking Keon instead, I'm not too good a coder, but I can tell what might be possible, thought probably not much better than you.
Also I believe drop pods are already being worked on

As far as I know, most of the work currently being done are the basics which content can be added to.
