because it distributes the damage around it and increasing the pressure in rooms behind damaged walls
you need to think about how to built your ships not only exterior but also interior
because if you make borg the ship could collapse because the pressure within would become too great
you need decompressors
and you need to design the outside in a way that it can distribute the damage so that your ship would suffer the least
its flexible and can be used in any form without losing the texture because it would be on a ships block like a layer of snow
Your system makes it entirely pointless to build thick walls.
Thus, it sets a limit for the hull-resistance of a ship.

At what point did I miss armor plates?
I only knew of block-hulls...
Still, I think one should be able to build thicker walls and get a benefit from it.

sorry that was my reference to my armor idea
that includes normal blocks with a amount of damage it can take but that would be reasonably low
just hard enough to need good equipment like
diamond blocks you need diamond picks
but the armor plates you apply to the outside of your vessel
give the real protection
they ohw just look at joys armor idea
i also have a vote going on in the notes forum

I believe that the DMG should be made by block because it adds to the fun of buildingt the ship keeping it in mind while I believe frost's idea will not prevent people from making ugly ships, best way to prove it would be to face the simple fact there WILL be ugly ships out there no matter what, this will not help to solve the problem in any way. When a system is hit through the armor it's destroyed (just like in "real life") and the ship doesn't blow up unless you hit munition or fuel and such. It will fall apart and you will probably die from sofocation.
dont know if this changed but wont ships be built automatically from pre made schematics? it would be cool to have a ship designing menu but id like to think we will at least be able to upgrade armor.
Throw the commies in the drink so my country can be free!
i think thats not too hard if you have a certain block that has armor
and not the ship as a whole
because then you could treat it like its in mc edit with replace platinum plate with flivium plate
ant that way you would have upgraded your armor
of course we have to make a way that it costs thing but that wouldnt be too hard i think
