Great idea! This way, when big ships explode, we have a million flying blocks to calculate the positions and speeds of, then make them collide realistically, and light them! Because that wont cause lag at all!
Besides, from the way I understand it, Space is like the void, there are no blocks or possible block positions. Essentially, you can't place blocks, only entities. If you're building a space station, then you are adding onto the pocket-dimension version of the station, which is an entity in the main dimension.

Also, frost. How does lighting work on the outside of spacecraft that could be rotating relative to the sun?

For any sort of reasonable lighting, we'll need dynamic shadows. Specifically the hard variety, because no atmospheric scattering. I don't know how expensive this will be. In space there is a lot of room for optimization, which I haven't even begun to look into. Reduced geometry/mapped areas, mostly static objects, well-defined hull areas, half of the faces are guaranteed to be shadowed, etc.

If we needed to allow for a vanilla-style look, then we would just make it perpetually night and let people scratch their heads as to why the sun isn't lighting anything up. I'll tell you why. It's because you're playing Minecraft on your laptop like a noob and I can't fix that!

Things in Space

But what would happen then with all the things in space what about mining
And what would happen then when ships explode they just vanish leaving all the people inside instantly dead
With their spawn point in the ship that was destroyd or just let them hang in space
And i get the part sattelietes being entities instead of blocks
But what about asteroids and non atmospheric planets

I like your unintentional poetry better. They make moderately more sense.

Anyway, planets are static terrain. There can only ever be one of them within polygon draw distance of the camera at any given time. All foreign terrain must be a proxy entity which maps the coordinate transformations and keeps track of collisions. There can be any number of these, within reason.

If a ship blows up, a player must respawn on either a home planet or in some sort of nexus lobby, depending on how we want to set it up. Asteroids are proxy entities as well, so that they can have independent movement.
I don't know what you are asking about mining.

I think what jokler is trying to say
is that when you go to mine
you tnt blocks which will blow away
and fly and fly and fly

And so if you have blocks flying like that
you need to code them, correct?
