Why does anyone have cryo chambers when you can cross the galaxy in the same time it takes you to fill up your gas tank?

IMO, cryo pods could be used a solution to freeze your NPCs to prevent them from eating stuff on the journey, meaning you could have an exponentially larger crew that what your ship would normally allow that could be used as Spess Marines or mere Redshirts once thawed out.

They could also be used as a logout solution, but to power up your personal pod you have to drop shields or something like that.

Because it's ridiculous. It makes absolutely zero sense. "I'm bored during my intergalactic flight, so imma teleport my mind back home with magic and play there but still be on the ship too."

a ship that travels from one point to another doesnt take long but a galactic conquest
wont be from one place to another
that would include making evasive patterns chasing an enemy miles ahead just carrying in recources
this all takes time in wich normal players couldnt do anything then they get bored and quit
thats not what you want

Well, if we're actually worried about people getting bored on long intergalactic travels, why don't we add a kind of dream world? It would be contained in the client to prevent unneeded strain on the server. You or anyone else could awaken you at any time by deactivating your cryo chamber.

If you get bored, play in windowed mode and watch some tv while you are doing boring stuff. That's how MMOs normally work, right?

That was my fist thought. My earlier comment:

You could always make something or review tactics. Go down to the mess and have a conversation with an NPC, talk to the rest of the crew, do some research, hydroponics, go AFK and pop some popcorn, more crafting (there'll always be a lot of crafting to do), look over star maps, redecorate your quarters, make food, earn brownie points with your commander, taunt your enemies, message your friends, go to the mess and drink large amounts of alcohol, play around on the holodeck, get hurt on the holodeck, pay a visit to the medical bay, take a fighter for a spin, polish your mech, make a laz0rgunz, shoot people around the ship with said lazor guns, etc. etc. etc.
