Nidhogg

Released on Steam about a week ago. It's a 2D side-scroll thing where two players fight each other for the honor of being eaten by the Nidhogg, the dragon(?) of Norse mythology. It has very retro-style graphics (each player is a monochromatic pixel dude) but a surprisingly complicated and tactical combat system. Swords can be parried at different heights, flicked out of your opponent's hands, thrown around, etc. It's a very fast-paced kind of thing; you're each trying to get past the other to reach opposite ends of the area, and you can expect the ground to be pretty thoroughly soaked with brightly-colored pixels by the time you're done with it. Word to the wise: don't try to fight somebody with a sword when you don't have one yourself. The game has won several awards but has very mixed reviews on Steam, because apparently the online multiplayer sucks due to crappy netcode. I'd expect that to be fixed at some point. The game is clearly meant to be played with two people at one computer, and it does that very well. Absolutely worth $15 US IMO.
