I just sold a Steam trading card. As awesome as this is, I feel that we need to have an organized thread for the discussion and trading of Steam trading cards.

So, when you 'sell' a trading card, is it for some sort of credits, or actual currency?

You get real money because people pay real money. Now you only get 4 per game and they sell at maybe 30-50 cents a piece. I was super excited until I heard only 4 a game. I would sell some and hang on to some because maybe they will be more valuable down the road.

The thing is, you collect them to make a badge, which gets you special stuff like emoticons.

It's game-based ones. Like a TF2 emoticon with something from TF2.

You get more than 4, they are replenished.

I still don't understand how you get trading cards. Do you like get them at random or do you buy them or do they work like achievements or what?

You get them randomly

Not always random. Valve told me to kill a man without asking why, and afterwards they rewarded my loyalty with a trading card and a TF2 hat.
