Heard both good and hate about this game. Worth it?

Absolutely. This is the best RTS I've ever played, IMO (although I've just recently picked up the original Starcraft, so I'll get back to you on that). If you're not sure about it, get Trinity on Steam instead of Rebellion. It's more or less the same but half the price, and if you like it we can all still play with you. There's a bit of a learning curve, but SoaSE has an excellent wiki that can help you with a lot of things.

The most satisfying game I've ever played. Make sure you get Rebellion though.

Think about me, and then think about Kobialka, and decide which one of us you think you should trust.

Reason to get SoaSE: Rebellion
  • It has all 3 DLCs that were released for Trinity.
    It has more factions
It has a cooler intro animation
    Starbases
    The AIs are better
    More frigates and cruisers
    More capital ships
    More defenses
    Better diplomacy
    Starbases
Reasons to get SoaSE: Trinity
  • It's cheaper

The original starcraft was an excellent strategy game. You can't really compare it to Sins though because of its age. You can do things now you couldn't back then, and you feel it in the gameplay, like it's holding you back.

Also Rebellion > Trinity. Much better value to someone who doesn't already own any of the titles. It may be more expensive but you're getting more worth out of every penny.

Let's let him do his own research. I'm sure he will discover that because Rebellion has everything Trinity has and more awesomeness, he should get rebellion. Also, which Sins do you usually play together on?

Finished a match today. Me, and 2 other TEC rebel AI against 3 TEC Loyalists, 3 Vasari Loyalists, and 2 Advent Loyalists set to unfair with their focus on defense (because Advent tend to die early on in the game). The map was a random huge multiplayer map. I was the first (as usual) to build a Titan and that marked the doom of all 3 TEC Loyalist factions. One of them managed to build a titan but my fleet was able to take care of it without help from the titan, who was busy bombing a planet. The size of my fleet got to the point where I could destroy and colonize an enemy planet in less than a minute so I didn't need a defending fleet because I was never attacked. All the AI were trying to defend against me. you know... this happens every time I play with AI.
