Re: Kerbal Space Program Megathread V1
So I did something unprecendented (for me) and built an aircraft that lasted more than a day in my sphere of interest: the Sky Fury.
Flies quite well, even dead level - due to a 5-degree wing incidence, however, inverted flight requires a 10-degree nose-up attitude.
Until the bombs are away, the F.1 handles rather sluggishly, but considering it can flatten most of the KSC singlehandedly, I'm willing to live with that. Low-speed handling is uniformly excellent on all variants; the F.2, F.3, and F.4 are carrier-capable (F.1 is too heavy).
EDIT: Just finished testing the F.5 high-altitude variant. Adds a turbojet and 4 sidewinders; Nothing amazing, but it works for hit-and-run.

I too, made a plane. Except mine didn't even remotely work. Kept flipping over.
But I tried to build something resembling a VF-1, the engine positions pretty much screwed the whole thing over.
And it need a ridiculous amount of ASAS to stay level, and even then god help you if you even think of pitching:

Center of Lift is probably forward of the Center of Mass; if it pulls upwards a lot when flying, shift the wings/fins backwars some.
EDIT: With the addition of some seperatrons, the Sky Fury F.1C is carrier-capable. Just don't try to land with more than half payload.

For that pass the save:
I'll warn you, I horrisuck at landing and will probably mostly strike with single-use suicide drones.
I also claim the old KSC.

I vote for Stock Aero because true men fly without autopilot while highly intoxicated.

Autopilot? How dare you make such an accusation. True men fly with aerodynamics that aren't totally knackered.Shadowcat wrote:I vote for Stock Aero because true men fly without autopilot while highly intoxicated.

Re: Kerbal Space Program Megathread V1
True aerospace engineers build planes that effectively fly by themselves. Without autopilot.
Also the requirement of loading a plane with adequate dakka while maintaining enough range to strike globally doesn't give you many options for design without something like FAR or NEAR.

Re: Kerbal Space Program Megathread V1
Well today I finally got a hypersonic bomber to work with NEAR.
Top speed of Mach 2.7 (940m/s), Capable of taking off from the North Pole...

...And "landing" at KSC in about 16 minutes. Unfortunately you need to drop out of hypersonic flight quite a long time before you attempt to land, otherwise shit just doesn't work.

Not needed, just need to pilot it a little more competently.T.O. Bright wrote:Airbrakes are your friend.
Though that said, for bombing purposes, it can stay put at 14km up. Don't need it any lower.
