TBH it caters to the bad players more than the good ones. Same goes for DoW. And I don't know what you mean about not spamming; all I've done so far is build a ton of heavy infantry units with a rocket launcher or two and I have yet to lose a game...same as I did in DoW.
That tells me more that you have yet to meet someone who knows what they're doing than anything else.

You already have a fundamental understanding of tactics, so I'm not surprised you've yet to lose a game with infantry alone. Starcraft is all about split-second decisions, but there's little to no strategy involved in deploying your forces, and even if you do it can all be ended by some units having a ridiculous counter to your barricade. CoH, on the other hand, as you pointed out has a lot of strategy going for it. Well placed units at choke points can and will win the game singlehandedly if your enemy can't root them out, if you go running in gungho starcraft-style things won't go well for you.

I'd also like to inquire as to whether you're playing in singleplayer or on the internet lobby. CoH AI isn't the best, and though I already fall prey to them (never won a match), Iv says the matches online are much, much more exciting.

Ill tell you a secret though - against a good player one choke point is not enough. It is true that the gameplay is built around holding the line as best as you can but each line can be breached - is that HMG team annoying you ? get a sniper, or a mortar - it will also help to clean out bunkers, or rush for the tanks ASAP, cut the enemy off from the side, bombard his defences with arti until you level the whole map. He will need in his turn to respond to your sniper with lets say a scout jeep/motorcycle or make his own mortar against yours. Ideally though you should not let him get those points. IF you keep pushing you won't let him establish strong defences. One of the common mistakes I saw is that people simply stop pushing ("we'll play passive ,create a big blob and show them who's the boss ! " ) well you rambos will probably get slaughtered when you return to that point again which will probably have bunkers and garrisons set up all around.

I've never played Starcraft, but I have played perimeter, which is very similar.
My tactics always were keep sending waves of disposable but cheap units, while I stay back and build nukes, fire off nukes at their defences, then let loose my bigger units, along with several hundred infantry (perimeter infantry were rubbish, but made good distractions) whilst maintaining control over a specialist group, taking down specific targets, until the enemy city was exposed, and at the mercy of my forces.

Then I would be violently blown up by that one thing I forgot about.

Never was very good at RTS

That's not at all like SCII.

SCII is about massing up a ball, bashing it at another ball, and hoping your ball wins or else hoping you can mash up another ball before the enemy ball gets to your base and blows it to pieces.

Actually, proto put in a pretty accurate description. Casters in SC are more than strong enough to turn battles single handed with a well placed psionic storm, fungal growth or nuke. I do occasionally just mass produce Vikings though...dropping an army on the worker line is always fun :)

You will get annihilated on higher levels. Vikings are for air combat and for air combat only. They are useless on the ground (Most of the time)

I use them to kill worker lines, in much the same way as a Dark Templar warp/drop. I still miss Reavers though :(

I've never played StarCraft and I have a question. How does a RTS game earn the money to pay for an animation like this? It was the Koreans wasnt it...

Probably because its made by blizzard (WoW, Diablo, ect.) which is owned by activision (insert generic game here) which means they have a ridonkulous amount of money.

The original Starcraft had very high quality cutscenes for its day as well. And yes, I'm sure the Koreans payed for most of it :P

@Proto, they are not owned by Activision, I already explained this...

Blizzard has WoW going for them. 10 million subscribers at its peak, that's close to 200 million in net profit MONTHLY, never mind annually. Their other franchises are no pushovers either, WoL sold extremely well.

A cinematic like that wouldn't cost much anyway as it'd likely be done by an in-house animator (as opposed to contracting to a developer specializing in that field), and a lot of assets were re-used in that video (it'd seem) from the WoL cinematics.

Well why someone would bother to make new if they fit in ? Works like that pretty much in every video game ... Yea because WoW had 12 million subscribers at it's peak (and is now around 10 million) it gave ridiculous amounts of money, enough for any of their future projects. All they need to do now is not to screw it up...

Nova actually stays and chills out in the hangar bay, cloaked. If you sit there and wait for a minute you'll see her uncloak sitting on a box.
