all the futurecraft.* are taken.
Frankly, it'd be easier if the mod just had a better name. It's pretty obvious that there are a lot of people who like the title and not all are going to be as willing to lay them aside so easily as previously (same reason you gave for no donations -- nothing tangible yet) There's already a server and a handful of texturepacks bearing it, and I for one would hate to misdirect traffic from them.
Such a radical change would have to go through Mackeroth first, but it'd be for the best in the long run, methinks. Otherwise the only option without the acronym would be futurecraftmod.com, which actually doesn't sound that bad, come to think of it, but I still think it'd help to have as short a name as possible for convenience's sake.

Re: Domain Name
It became evident that the name was going to cause trouble pretty early on, but yeah, not sure we can change it this late in the game. But what would you call it if not futurecraft?
I got it.
spacecraft.net
Darn, it's taken. Interestingly, not by a site that has anything to do with spacecraft.

Re: Domain Name
But are you insistent on the full 'futurecraft' being in the domain?

Re: Domain Name
Insistent is a bit strong. I just want to make sure that we don't end up doing the same thing all these other insensitive bastards are doing by plopping down their own dumb stuff on the nice domains.

Outside of the Museum of Discovery, somehow I doubt fcmod.net will be in high demand.
fc-mod.com? That way it's not a copy of their domain.

It's being squatted on, apparently. Jesus christ.
The .net is available, though.

Re: Domain Name
Do you have a DNS host in mind yet? We use Network Solutions at work. They've been pretty good to us.
A big part of it is going to be whether they limit subdomain registration.

Re: Domain Name
lol...I'd been thinking Godaddy. These guys offer a free domain with webhosting. I wish I'd asked you before I went with Xenonservers for hosting
Guess I'll just switch hosts with the coming invoice.

Re: Domain Name
I can't recommend GoDaddy if you have a choice. Everything I've heard says they're kind of scumbags.
For now, there's no rush. Do your homework and figure out who is offering the best package for what we need. If it comes down to better service vs. lower cost, I can reimburse you.
As for the domain, hit up Mackeroth before you do anything. He should be involved in this process.

Re: Domain Name
I was referring to Network Solutions in the second sentence. They seem like a pretty good deal compared to the one that uses pornography as an advertising point. I'd been thinking of just registering the domain with GoDaddy for 2 years and using Xenon to host it, but like I said, the Professional Plan from Network Solutions seems like a pretty swell deal, and if you can vouch for them that's another point in their favor.
As far as money is concerned, thank you for the offer, but with the debit card coming I'll have access to my monthly SS checks, which aren't too shabby, to say the least. So long as I don't go overboard with spending I should be fine.

Re: Domain Name
Tiel referred me to this page. In truth, I don't honestly care. I'm fine with any site name, so long as it's relevant. Whatever suits you best, Tiel.

Re: Domain Name
I suggest futurecraftforums.us, because awesome and available. (And .US domains are pretty cheap, too.)
