Yay or nay?

Too lazy to repost the valid points brought up in the original discussion, feel free to bring them up again in this thread.

And I can agree to this.

See, instead of cancelling the count to prevent spammers from receiving points, isn't it better to prevent spam and award points for good posters no matter what ? It is harder than cancelling the post count for off-topic but should help to the quality of the threads. After all doing the first will just push the problem aside instead of solving it.

Also instead of viewing it as "Why should we ?" you can view it "Why shouldn't we ?".

Also I'm not for a strict control over the section (You know I'm the most liberal of all mods :P ). I'm do against some specific violations such as the "First word" topic where some users posted more than 75% of their overall posts. It might be considered by strict control, in my opinion it's not, I'll leave up to you to decide.

We're not a totalitarian community, we're a semi-democratic one.

This community exists to worship the god Mackeroth in all his glory.

What about fr0st?

Sme off topics can be relevant, I agree with IV, we should just remove spam, but anything that isn't spam should count, for there are the occasional rational conversations that occur in off-topic

That's a big problem we had on the old forum. Discussion that could have progressed in a productive matter was silenced before it could develop. To regulate it in such a manner would be...detrimental, to say the least.

Well when people post words for like 10 pages it's quite clear to me and it's a violation included in the rules. The topics you were talking about didn't have any offensive content to that date. Once such appears there the thread is locked. The first word topic is also the same. I'd tolerate it for like 10 pages before I declare it spam because I know it wasn't intentional so I’ll let em to go on with it a little longer until it is specifically a violation.

Its almost at 30 pages of nonsense, I kind of regret making the thread in the first place. But most of the stuff in Offtopic is just spam.

I vote yay, I almost never post in the offtopic...

We have the discussion section for rational talk. Offtopic is largely spam at the moment.

Three things in life are inevitable, death, taxes and spam.

What does spiced ham have to do with this? I'm just joking, but since off-topic mostly is spiced ham (what does spiced ham have to do with the off-topic section?) I voted neigh because I like horses.

Which is a spam post and a troll vote ... Srsly though if you vote at least vote for the correct reasons. You are given an opportunity to decide about something important (well not really but still) so take this a bit more seriously or don't vote at all.

I think vinyl was giving us an example of what happened in the off-topic, and I agree, it is, was, and always will be spam.

Really ? Is my story a spam ? Or if I want to tell you for example some cool stuff I had today ? This is what off-topic is about - free socialising ... the problem is some of the community members just cant use this wonderful area properly while the others avoid it altogether.
