Formal petition to enforce on-topicness in Member's Lounge

We haven't made any attempt to keep threads on-topic in the Member's Lounge for months. As a direct result, to my knowledge literally not one single thread has remained on-topic for even a page in that time, baring mine in which I asked that it be enforced. In the words of our honored leader,
Tau wrote:To be perfectly honest, I'm starting to regret endorsing that policy. This really is getting old.
We have amply demonstrated that we as a community are not responsible enough to have productive discussions in an environment in which anything goes. For the sake of making the forum once again a useful place to talk about things, and to elevate it above its current position at the absolute bottom of the Internet barrel, I propose that we invert the rule about on-topicness: It should be enforced in all threads in which the OP does not specifically ask that it not be enforced.

Other idea: on-topic is enforced everywhere except the Members lounge, but on-topic enforcement can be initiated there by the OP.

Jedi's petition has my support.

Although I must ask what constitutes a "productive discussion" in an online gaming forum's "general threads" area.

This is the current system.

It depends on the thread, of course, but I think it's usually pretty obvious when threads aren't fulfilling their intended purpose. xD CVN's thread is a prime example of this--(s)he wanted something very specific out of it, and the thread desintegrated before that could happen. That's true in very nearly every thread that's posted here, and it's really killed this forum as a place where things could happen.

I doubt its what killed the forum, falling apart is the natural course of action for this place in its current state ...

No, the current system is that in the Member's Lounge, on-topic can not even be enforced when the OP requests it.

Off-topic has been enforced in my threads in the Member's Lounge in the past. That's never been in question.

Probably a good idea.

I've never worried too much about off-topic in my thread, but then again I can correct even the worst of derailment with a single screenshot so it's not so much of an issue. But for the members lounge it's starting to make sense to enforce this.

Well one thing is to pass that law, another is to enforce it, Im afraid that practically speaking unless you plan to ban half a forum the enforcement will look no different from what you've seen so far. Moreover you are now 100% more likely to abandon threads which actually does the opposite of what you wanted LJS. Believe me passing this legislation won't save this place from falling apart, if you want to do so you need to look for answers elsewhere.

Step 1: Remove stick from ass.

Step 2: Replace with larger stick.

Step 3: Recite Vogon poetry.

The attempts at legislating and law enforcement are laughable at best. This forum's 14, maybe 15 people on a good month, formal governance isn't something that it needs. Maintaining any semblance of organization between those 15 people is nigh impossible, I've tried. They're all always the smartest in the room. Whoever is the mod now should be able to autonomously sift through and distinguish the shitposting from other stuff. If s/he can't, then there's really no point in even trying.

I think you need to take your 3 steps to our local psychologist, Vinyl.
Other than that, you have a point.

Yeah, Vinyl, you should take that series of references that apparently flew directly over Ivan's head to your psychiatrist.
