A Traveled Road

For travell you could use busses and trains thats not that hard just make a ship with an inprogrammed route
And some side routes for when the main route would be blocked

What about ectrimble? He was working on inter-server. Could he perhaps come back/give us his coding?

It's very unlikely Ectrimble is coming back. He's got a lot on his plate to deal with. Cascaid and Danice might if we bug them/actually give them something to do.

It's not a bit problem. I've learned a ton about database management from my job, so we should be alright without him.

Can we at least get the code he already did? If there is any, of course.

If it is anything like my code, we are better off starting from stratch and understanding it completely. Realistically it probably didn't get too far past integrating SQL into the jars, which is something we would need to work out ourselves anyway.

So, IC2 in SPAAAACE?

Brainstorm.

Tiel just mod edited your post for a spelling error o_O

And more like Tekkit in space. Minus the lag. If it's CraftBukkit compatible I could even put it on my server :)

Forget the space part, that needs Copernicus to not look like total fail. And a lot more thought out than Tekkit and/or IC2.

I guess the premise here is to make a decent tech mod that merges seamlessly with traditional Minecraft gameplay.

You're over thinking things. All we need is a couple toys to keep people amused. It doesn't have to be a full fledged mod. It does even need to have a proper tech tree. Just some random futuristic stuff we can get out that is mostly entity based.

This is preparation for the mod, not the mod itself.

I don't know what you meant by your post Ave, so forgive me for not providing a response.

And if the intent is to get stuff on the ground complete while Copernicus is completed, more is needed than a handful of vehicles; If I may presume it, I doubt that would entertain the masses for long.

Futurecraft has always aimed to be something that would dwarf most, if not all, mods for minecraft. You coukd start by providing the planned ground gameplay along with anything that doesn't have Copernicus dependancy in a preliminary package regularly updated to provide content that could then be imported into the actual mod when FC's backbone is complete.

I would recommend against doing the full scale development tree before we have real planets. Ores which are representative of the final product will be too hard to collect by hand if they are seeded with the intent of industrial drilling and refinement in mind. I really think something basic like vehicles and maybe some mounted guns will be enough for the time being. If we can do the modular assembly bit, even better. People are going to think that's cool.

We don't have to be the next IC2 for this to work.

Hrrmm..

I guess we need tielEntities for the block based weapons, huh. Can't think of a way to express the customization we need in metadata.

Or are we doing block based weapons. Was that ever decided? I mean, obviously handguns will be items and entity weapons will be just a customization in the entity. But for those ships, entity turrets or block turrets? Oh also, having the custom weapons on tanks have different models would be insanely cool. Like, WOAH cool. Just need to get entities figured out.

Is it even possible to make items full-fledged 3d models in the player's hand? That'd be wicked-cool.

PortalCraft's portal gun does it. I've been trying to find out how. My guess is you would extend whatever renders the difference between a block and an item in your hand.
