This question has been in my head for a while, Ach what does a strigiform owl look like? Is it just an oversized earth owl or are there any major differences?
For the most part, yes. They are just larger owls, mostly. Some notable differences are as follows-
Strigiforme are far larger than regular owls. In RP, they are ~3-6 meters tall. IRL, it's more like 35.
Strigiforme have 6 talons, with two functioning as "thumbs" allowing a strong grip on things. Regular owls only have 4 talons.
Strigiforme plumage sheds less frequently
Strigiforme have specialized melatonin glands that let them easily shift from being nocturnal to diurnal. As such, they can be awake during the day with ease, and also do not suffer jet lag
Strigiforme have several backup organs
Strigiforme have a 5 chambered heart
Strigiforme are sentient
Strigiforme have notably thicker plumage
Strigiforme have legs capable of swiveling 90° at the joint
Strigiforme can balance very well on one leg
Strigiforme can live far longer than regular owls
