Empress Nostrud looked at the occupants of the room, before speaking up.

While I am dubious over whether your technology would work on Macaians, since we have quite a different brain structure - evident since at least that incident where a human went unconcious from consuming a Macaian liquor in the 23rd century by your calendars - I still don't want the side effects of you actually trying...
Also your offer sounds pretty good. I would like to emphasize, however, that we will likely not provide direct military support.
If that is okay, consider the deal sealed.

-----------

The boarding party entered the Mehandor ship.
The Mahandor seemed quite surprised to see fuzzy hairballs about half their size march into their ship with laser rifles.
Nevertheless, the leader of the boarding party spoke to who he identified as the highest-ranking crew member present:
"We have clear orders. We demand that you show us your origins on a star chart, your planned course that you deviated from, and information regarding this ship's combat capabilities."

Novan territory, Unknown NR ship debris field, aboard Iedrae of Mered

"Thish ish Commander Lieyeh Irohoy of the Batisssh Rakyeh ship Iedrae of Mered. We come on a mission of peash to inveshtigate a local anomaly in order to asshure the shafety of the citizensh of the Combine and the Commonwealth." The Commander's voice repeated in Karied's earpiece as the broadcast transmission looped. He did his best to avoid the hologram of Irohoy's half-plastic face spitting the sentence at him from the bottom corner of the comms console, but he couldn't tone her voice out. Speaking Galactic Common made her slur much worse, he noticed.

The commander cleared her throat, "Is the scan complete?"

"Nearly, maam." Watts said, leaning over from the nav screen to check the active sensors.

She nodded. "Notify me when it's done. Karied."

"Yes, commander?" He replied sleepily. He and Irohoy were nearing the end of their third consecutive twelve-hour shift, and Watts had been on voluntary duty for thirty minutes past a human labor law violation.

"Is the subcom unit running?"

Karied pressed a few buttons, probably even the ones connected to the subcom unit, because its icon chirped. "Spun up, running, and ready to roll."

Irohoy grunted in either annoyance or approval. Watts swiveled his chair around to face the commander, raised a hand, and spoke "Maam, done with the scan. Di--"

The commander interrupted, seemingly annoyed that the human was speaking GC, "Patch it to the comms console. Lieutenant, send that data straight to Rakyeh via sub."

Watts continued in Meredi, "Did a little review, I think I found what the Admiral was talking about, some gravitational thing. Matches what's in the NR report. But we did some multi-layer scans, full-spectrum and controlled for interdimensional noise and... Permission to use the forward screen?"

Irohoy gestured toward the screen, "Fine. But be quick. Karied, did you send that packet?"

"Yes, commander."

Watts brought an image of sensor readings onto the large forward screen. "A--nd, look a' this." The image switched to a bright green blotch against a slightly less bright green field. "That's a gravity well with no source. That is very not natural, and not like any jump residue I've seen. Even better... Look a--t..." He leaned over again and tapped a console. The image of the well tilted and several other multicolored layers stood out behind it."This! Scans of cross-dimensional EM sigs. We could trace it. Well, not us, we don't have the equipment, but a science ship, maybe with one of the new ar--"

"That's enough, Watts. Leave the rest to Central. Plot a course for the next rendezvous point. After that, you both are dismissed."

Watts nodded and tapped at the nav screen.

Private transmission to the Grand Generals of Zuguth

Subspace Band: Business.

From: Nathan C. Fueler (CEO Fueler-Havoc AMC)

Audio only.

"Honorable Generals of Zuguth, it has come to my attention that both of our organizations have encountered a small problem regarding your mining facilities in the Wyvern nebula. You are somewhat more invested than we are, but rest assured that your diplomatic and corporate allies will be there to assist. I have enlisted the help of the Combine military as well. Leaving even a few Batissians stranded on a foreign mining colony would be a serious hit to the people's morale. I don't plan on making this incident public, but the military doesn't like to take chances. I'm sure, together, we can nullify the damages. Or perhaps even turn this into something mutually beneficial. I urge you to accept my assistance."

CSV A Series of Unlikely Explanations, Balcora Nebula

"Transmission coming in from the Batiss ship, sir."

Commander Eloysis leaned forwards. "Play it."

"Thish ish Commander Lieyeh Irohoy of the Batisssh Rakyeh ship Iedrae of Mered. We come on a mission of peash to inveshtigate a local anomaly in order to asshure the shafety of the citizensh of the Combine and the Commonwealth."

"Someone's got speech problems," the commander muttered. "Relay the following to the Batiss vessel: 'This is Commander Eloysis of the Commonwealth destroyer A Series of Unlikely Explanations. The anomaly you speak of was caused by a derelict spacecraft; the device or system creating the anomaly was removed by the NeoRomans. If you wish more information, you should ask them. In the meantime, welcome to Balcora Sabbah.' End message."

[[OOC: FYI, the area where the ship was found [Balcora Sabbah, near the very center of the galaxy] isn't Novan space, Marc, they're just doing sceince and surey work there.]]

[Private transmission to Nathan C. Fueler]
Your offer to help is greatly appreciated. We hope the amount of military power we are planning to send to the nebula it more than needed, but it never hurts to be careful, especially when facing an enemy that can outpower two dozen robots and a very heavily armored soldier.

Schematics for the A- through D-series of Enforcer droids have been transmitted to the Hexalan Expanses

Enforcer droid lore:
Spoiler:
The Enforcer droids are a series of battle androids produced by the Atlas corporation for the Zuguthian government. They're not used by the military, but rather by police, border patrol, et cetera whenever force is needed in a situation, or in situations when it's not desirable to use people.

The D-series resemble a hovering ball, about half a meter in diameter, mostly used by police officers in urban areas for its compact size and shape, and for its non-threatening appearance. It is armed with a retractable laser gun, a launcher for gas grenades and flashbangs, and a taser.

The A- through C-series are more humanoid. They resemble a sort of mix of super battle droids from Star Wars and loaders from Borderlands, with varying degrees of toughness.
The A-series are thin and light, designed for scouting and infiltration.
The C-series are large and tough, designed for brute force.
The B-series are the most commonly used, "regular" enforcers, and can be used for most situations.

OOC: Oh, well instead of Novan space, wherever the wreckage is. Science ship headed that way.

BIC

Batiss space, Shihe Periphery Port Karst Tun, aboard docked Iedrae of Mered

Lieutenant Karied braced himself against one of the hydraulic ramp arms as he surveyed a series of metal crates sliding into Iedrae's cargo bay. The conveyor deposited a particularly large one with a resounding thump and Watts hung his head out of a vertical airlock above the cargo ramp. "What the hell kind of 'rescue team' are we picking up?"

Karied shrugged and shook his head. "Didn't say, Kria didn't include anything specific about them in the transmission."

Watts swayed in a manner that made the Lieutenant wonder how he was staying in the airlock upside down. "Oversight or spook shit, you think?"

Karied watched a group of marines muster at the base of the ramp before replying, "I don't like to speculate, but with this kind of kit, oversight is pretty unlikely." The Commander walked out of the bay to greet the new personnel, Karied straightened and raised a hand. Watts did the same, but inverted. She ignored both of them and continued down the ramp toward the formation. A towering Nae'hohna strolled around the column to meet the Commander. Karied couldn't see his rank, but his chest was covered in colored metal ribbons and he wore at least a dozen gold and silver staples in his ears. The two saluted, the marine requested permission to board, the Commander granted. Then they grabbed each other's forearms, a familial greeting which was made somewhat difficult by the height difference, but seemed as natural as cousins. Irohoy's face was even contorted into a smile when they broke.

"Gnava Jalura! You have a little more metal than last time." She said, loud enough that Karied could hear over the sound of the file marching up the ramp.

"Speak for yourself, Captain." He punched her prosthetic left shoulder, sending her sliding back a meter. "Metal inside and out, as always."

"It's Commander now." She said, popping her wetware back into place.

They began walking up the ramp behind the marines. "And that's a damn disgrace.

"Things change, Jalura, It's been years." She turned to Karied while passing, "At ease."

"You were Captain then, to us, and you're Captain now." The massive Batii said as Karied tapped at the ramp controls.

At first, Golt had to accommodate to these little furballs, which were just a little bigger than Ocrivar in their combat suits, ordering him around, but their handheld rifles sure helped him quite a lot.
He took a breath and began to speak, a bit accented and without much vocabulary, but pretty fluent: "We greet you on our vessel, the 'Hope of Vylla'. My name is Golt, I am the leader of the ship and want to show you, that we really have no hostile intentions."
The leading being looked up at him and hissed: "We'll see about that, but first, show us your ship, we want to see the course you wanted to follow originally."
"Of course, follow me and I will lead you there," answered Golt.

Suddenly a voice creeped inside his head: "Is your mental block online?" It was Kral, a Gurrad and one of the two psykers aboard. "Of course it is," thought Golt back. Kral answered shortly after: "Good, because all of these guys are psykers, not strong, but they definitely have telepathy and they don't try to hide it." Golt looked at the small beings behind him who made notes about the ship and it's technology while they followed him to deck 5, section 14, where the navigation systems were located.
The group was escorted by all kinds of crew members who had suddenly become diplomats and talked with the Macaians, as they called themselves. Golt walked forward and thought to Kral: "Kral, we're about to enter deck 4, can you please inform the Gurrads there, that we have important guests, I don't want them to show off, when we arrive there." Golt knew that Kral was chuckling when he answered: "Okey-doke princeps, we'll be as peaceful as natural Ocrivar when you come here!"
And Kral was right, the Gurrads kept on working and doing their own thing, not a single one of them provoked or even talked to the Macai, they did not snarl, everything was alright. And then they met Kruuper.
Kruuper was the second psyker on the ship, a short-range teleporter and telepath. He had a quirky and enthusiastic personality, he was a nice guy if you knew him personally, but Golt would have wanted him to stay out of the way of important official guests. And he was a "free" Ocrivar.

He teleported in and stood with his body facing the wrong way, while the fully moveable head was turned towards the visitors. He grinned and exclaimed: "Oh, sorry, I thought you were going in the opposite direction." He could speak the language of the Macai, probably because he gathered informations about it from the people who actually had to learn it. He turned his body around while his head stayed in the same position. "Please don't show off, Kruuper," thought Golt. He then smiled and explained the visitors who just appeared out of nowhere: "May I introduce to you Kruuper, he is one of the highest ranking officers on the ship and a friend of mine." Golt thought: "Kruuper, get out of here, this is serious!" He then continued: "He just wanted to come by and say hello," he looked at Kruuper for a second who returned the look and unserstood, "but he is very busy, so I don't think he'll be here for long." Kruuper smiled and shook the hand of the leading Macai, before he said: "Golt's right, I have to go now." With those words he just disappeared. Golt looked at the slightly confused Macai and suggested: "Let's continue, the navigation room is not far from here."

A few minutes later, they reached the navigation room. Golt opened the dorr and wasn't surprised that Korf was working. He greeted Korf and said: " This is my navigation officer Korf, he will explain you where we wanted to go and why we ended up here." Korf greeted the Macai and then began to present the story of the "Hope of Vylla". He started with the experimental FTL drive, the Star of the Prophets and concluded with an error he must have made in the calculation of their destination.
Twenty minutes after they came into the navigation station, they left it and continued their way towards the CIC of the Hope of Vylla. Golt took a longer way to show their semi-offensive weaponry: "Here we have a 20mm Mk. 24 rotating Mag-Cannon, which we use to create a heavy AA-Screen around the ship, primarily against asteroids and other space debris." The weapons officer proudly showed off the fast turn speed of the turret, which was still retracted into the hull. The next station were the shield generators. When the technical personell showed them and explained their strength, which was only strong enough to protect the ship against asteroids, high speed particles and the gravitational forces of a wormhole, Golt could almost feel the small beings smirk, although their face stayed neutral while they wrote down the facts. But then the group reached the Laurin command station, which was located behind the bridge. "And what is that?" asked the leading Macai. Golt made a pause sighed and explained: "This is our Laurin Stealth-Screen. It can hold back all of the emissions of our ship. Coupled with hologram and sensor suites, it can make the ship almost invisible for an extended period of time, however this is not easy to explain, so I would like to continue now."

They reached the command center, where Golt introduced the bridge crew and explained basic functions of the ship, this was not necessary at all, but Golt tried to buy time, so that the Hope of Vylla could escape, should these Macai decide to attack the vessel. But he had one last trump, the heart of this colonization ship, the Terraforming Beam. It's creator Thag, could spent hours explaining all of the plans and methods to use this machine and a few hours more explaining how it worked.
Golt lead the group to the bow of the ship, where the generator and control room of the Terraforming beam was located. Thag was currently eating lunch when they entered the room. "Oh, Princeps, wasn't expecting you round here. And you brought guests!" Golt sighed and asked: "Have you been to the Hypno-School to learn the language of the Macai?" Thag tired to grin, but he utterly failed at it. Then he shook his head. Golt sighed and said: "Great, I thought you could explain these Gentlemen how the Terraforming Beam operates." Thag chuckled a bit and responded: "You are trying to buy time aren't you? Anyway, I think I explained it well enough for you to explain it yourself, so go ahead. Oh and don't mind me, I'm just gonna eat my lunch and then wait until we go back to Vylla." Golt wished he could get rid of Thag, but he was the only environment and climate expert, who could operate the beam. And he knew this. Golt turned to the waiting Macai and explained: "This our Planet-Changer-Beam. We would have used it to change the climate of an uncolonized world, if the world we wanted to go to would've been to cold to live on without protection. It can basically heat up the atmosphere, so that specific gases, like Methan or Carbon Dioxid, are set free. This keeps some of the reflecting light from going back into space and transforms it into heat. This heats the atmosphere even further, until the planet is colonizable. We..." he stopped, a small buzzer in one of his pockets just activated. The ship was ready to jump again. He continued: "...would like to go back to your boarding vessel."

The way back was eventless. They used one of the express lifts, which went directly from the bow to the mid- and aft sections of the ship. They reached the hangar where the Macai ship was located.
Golt shook the hands of the Macai team and wished them a blessed life, before tehy went back into the small shuttle and left the ship. Suddenly, Kruuper materialized next to him. He brought Kral with him. Good job! said Kral, "all of them can't really judge who we really are, but they think we are harmless, especially after you showed them our 'weapons' and shields. The only critical thing was the Terraforming-Beam, this upset some of them, as they thought it to be a disguised super-weapon." Golt looked at Kral and responded: Who knows, Thag never said something about it's combat capabilities, maybe it really is a disguised super weapon." Kral chuckled: "You think Thag would build a weapon? I mean he is the pacifist on this ship." Golt laughed a bit and then said: "Come on, let's find something to eat and find out, what the Macai are going to do next.
Suddenly, Julo.
"This DOES NOT help!"

After a while, the Macaians sent another message to the Mehandor vessel:

"Our diplomatic corps has just arrived. We wish to exchange information about our species' biology, our social structures and our governmental principles to aid peaceful coexistance. However, we have analyzed some of the information our boarding party has brought back. Firstly, we heavily criticize your use of psychic influence on our troopers, which we have detected traces of during their medical scans after returning. Secondly, we would like to inform you that according to the data you provided, you did end up in the location you intended. We terraformed the sole habitable planet in this system two standard years ago, so we assume the prophecy that guided you here is somewhat outdated. In addition we offer to introduce you to other species roaming this galaxy."

[Hexalani Section 2 Black Site Station Uneventful]

"Hey, you know that matter of national security or whatever in Macaian space?"

"Yeah?"

"Apparently it's an unregistered ship, alien by the looks of it."

"Send TF735, they can check it out."

"Should we use the Alexandric Spire?"

"Sure, no harm in being overly cautious, after all, I doubt they've told the goons not to shoot."

(OOC: The Alexandric Spire is a registered Hexalani diplomatic ship, but has classified ties with the para-legal, military, and bureaucratic Section 2.)

-------

The vessel exited FTL just outside the Macaian system. It sent a broadcast in the general direction of the MQE forces.

"Macaian fleet, Macaian fleet, this is diplomatic vessel Alexandric Spire requesting a line with the commanding officer."

Space squid people: magic terraforming lasers, superluminous travel, and just invented the pager. On track.

Longpost is long.

Also I'm hijacking Julo's word because it sounds cool.

//Hyperspace, en route to Wyvern Nebula, aboard Iedrae of Mered

Watts entered the aux passenger cabin. He stood behind Karied, who was apparently zoned-out leaning on the bulkhead, and scanned the room. His eyes settled on what he realized Karied was observing: a Kranah batii sitting cross-legged in one of the darker corners of the room. His eyes were lifeless and completely blacked-over, they seemed to be focused on a small metallic cube that he rolled over in his hands. Watts and Karied could see a portion his inhibitor collar protruding from his fatigues and a little piece of the metallic spine clamp dipping into the base of his skull.

Watts asked in English so the marines wouldn't understand, "A psycher on board?"

The LT's English was rusty, but he could speak it well enough. "Mhhm. That's his Leash over there." Karied jerked his head over to a human playing cards a few meters away.

(OOC unnecessary exposition: Psychers (slang) are amped psions with little to no natural ability. Due to the unstable nature of their augmentations, they're paired with a "leash" who controls the inhibitor and makes sure the neural editions don't make them go completely insane. Leashes are either natural psions or are modified to a lesser extent than psychers, often tuned only to their bound psycher's mind.)

Watts stood on his toes and craned his neck trying to gauge Karied's expression, then gave up when he saw it was a furry pit of apathy and settled back down. "You comfortable with this? I've heard stories. Ships going down, people goin' insane, all kinds of stuff. Bad luck, I say."

The batii shrugged, "This crap bucket's bound to fall apart sometime."

"Be real here, it's creepy, he's--" The ensign trailed off as the the psion turned its head toward him. He got the feeling that the blacked-out eyes were focused on him.

"Realx, I've worked with people like them before. Mostly, uh, normal." The human leash glanced at Watts, then to the psych. When he turned back to his cards, the psion turned back to his cube.

"Mostly... Mhph, bad luck." Watts repeated uneasily and shook his head.

Karied switched back to GC because the human language was making his head and tongue hurt. "Not like you to be prejudiced, Ensign."

"Am not, I'm just a bit wary of things that can ruin my brain with a thought's all."

The Lieutenant held up a finger and tapped his gel earpiece. "Message from the Commander. To the bridge, c'mon."

The two made the short walk to the bridge, which was much more adequately populated than usual. Irohoy sat in her usual position, and the Nae'Hohna with whom she was speaking earlier- Colonel Gnava Jalura- was sitting in the seldom-occupied first officer's chair. There was one person at each of the control consoles rather than the usual two spread across all of them. A few Marine Specials and a few crewmen.

The Commander glanced at them. "Ensign Watts, Lieutenant Karied, permission to enter granted. To your positions."

There was another Batii sitting in Karied's seat, a graveshift crewman that Karied had only seen during weekly muster and 0300 mealtimes. She appeared to be engrossed in her work, work which Karied knew was not all that engrossing. He stood beside the console and waited a few seconds before yelling at her. "Move, ensign." the LT waited for her to move to the adjacent position before plopping down in his spot at the comms console and replacing his usual gel ear bead with the bulkier headset. He found that he didn't like having a console buddy.

"Watts, Hotu, drop us into realspace." She paused to read from her screen. "Mark zero one point two nine three Q three."

They dropped out of hyperspace, the forward viewscreen was painted with the light of the ion storm. Almost immediately, there was a bleep at the comms console. "Commander, incoming message. Battlegroup Command/Control." Karied said.

"On screen." the commander ordered.

The image of Admiral Kria appeared on the large forward screen. "Glad the Iedrae could finally join us, we were just about to leave you to fend for yourself against this terrible natural beauty. What a fate. Unfortunately for me, I'll be dealing with that while you get to go make friends in the mines." The admiral chuckled at himself. "You made the pickup, good. Jalura's is one of the strongest Nav spec teams we have."

The Colonel bowed his gigantic head. "Thank you, Admiral. But the team is Captain Irohoy's, I only inherited it. She was the true leader."

Kria nodded. "Speaking of which, Captain Irohoy, get your old rings out, you'll be leading the 'rescue' team to the mines, I have to return to Rakyeh. Rendezvous with them at the enclosed coordinates." He turned to someone offscreen. "Cut the channel."

Karied turned to face the CO's chair. "Congratulations, Com-- Captain."

"Shut up, Lieutenant, and patch me through to every ship in the group." Irohoy seemed less dead than usual.

"Channels open, Captain."

"This is Captain Irohoy of command ship Iedrae of Mered. Prepare to boost Aurora shields to full."
