@Error there is no reply. Frantically attempting to hail them, you are interrupted by the sound of the airlock coupling.

@Shadow bathed in the light of its jump, the ship gliding towards you was almost hard to see, its hull as white as the glow. As you looked closer at it, you can make out distinct orange markings lining the vessel that culminated on either side at a large Hexagon, in the center of which was a strange glyph. Your drive has fully spooled. @Fenway you receive a response, in the same format as your own.

"You (picture of your ship) have illegally crossed (picture of ship jumping into their space) our (picture of a Hexalani) space (picture of the galaxy, the Hexalanic borders outlined). Are you prepared to be interrogated about this breach?"

Novan ships for the win.

Sharp left roll, interior lockdown, and jump; thus removing the link (won't damage the hull unless this is the worst Novan ship in existence), preventing boarders getting anywhere (8cm steel-ceramite doors, enjoy), and GTFOing.

@Shadow the ship accelerates, quickly overtaking you. As it does this, it arms weapons. Through the main viewing port, you can see one of its railgun barrels staring straight at you.

@Error hull integrity has not been compromised, but there is a noticeable scratch on the paint. You jump several systems out. Nearly a dozen FTL signatures appear, and are inbound. Your drive will finish spooling in five minutes. They will arrive just before then.

Put the engines to use; maneuver clear of them, begin the jump calculations for a course back to the Commonwealth, and start dancing, no sitting still. Check internal security feeds (notify the crew if there are any aboard), and maintain lockdown.

Even civilian ships can move fairly quick; helps when they're always built to government spec as auxiliary logistics cruisers.

@Error in your escapade, they strike a lucky hit and knock out an engine. But you manage to jump out of there, just after the sensors become filled with inbound signatures, numbering in the hundreds.

@Shadow you enter FTL just as the first shot was fired. In your carelessness though, you forgot to set a proper trajectory, and are headed further in on a fixed path. Should you enact the emergency shutoff, spooling will take well over an hour. If you continue on your course, it will autoshutdown after reaching the end of your trajectory, which is several systems in their direction, but spooling will only take about five minutes.

Fail.

Jump drives are instant transfer; wherever you set the course, that's where you go when you jump. No waiting.
Emergency-shutdowns can only be fired prejump. Setting it off afterwards nets you a whirr and the drive shuts off.

Also, I relay a distress signal to the CSN Listening Post nearest my ship, along with my sensor logs (response likely to be within 2-4 minutes).

OOC: You couldn't afford to keep up the jump drive, sold it and bought a warp drive. In other news, I have no idea what the Commonwealth would do with the knowledge of a newly discovered faction who doesn't speak any known language.
BIC

@Shadow you exit, and find yourself bombarded with messages ranging from the angry to the distraught. Four FTL signatures are inbound.

CSN would send 2 destroyers and a battlecarrier acting as a diplomatic ship; the civvie would be jumped home and have his jump drive replaced, with a warning not to let their ship fall into such an appalling state of disrepair.

Seriously, no jump drive = EPIC fail.

The Calculated Adherence is an epic fail, and so is every captain aside from Fen.

@Error you are relieved by a diplomatic envoy. You now have the option to abandon the captain and become the diplomat.

@Error your assignment is simple - engage in peaceful talks with the unidentified faction. Act as you see fit.

Considering they are likely arriving soon, maintain position. Shields up, ready to maneuver, weapons offline, drives charged.

Also, the destroyers maintain slightly irregular rolls to port or starboard, varying between 10 and 13 degrees/sec.
