Face it men. This is it. The FCRP is finished at this stage.

I'm not one for rants, but me (and vinyl) have been looking over it, thinking it. The problem and solution comes down to one thing: Gamers vs. writers, and Strigiforme.

Gamers try to take advantage of the writers while the writers try to keep them in line. The gamers want the best, want to be invincible, unstoppable, the best technology and the biggest ships. The writers simply want a good story. But a good story cannot be had under a system being taken advantage of. And gamers here outweigh the writers a lot. This is the root of all problem.

And what prevents this problem from being solved in FC is stubbornness, refusal to change. It's always been somewhat like this, why should it change? Any system that keeps the gamer's in line simultanously stifles and murders creativity, and is quickly abandoned. Any system that fosters creativity is taken advantage of. They go on, but inevitably die and get reset, again, and again, and again.

This debate is why RPers like Catsonmeth and Tiel left. They wanted to write stories; all they got was a * waving contest for who had the biggest ships. There's no story in that.

So that's it. FCRP is dead, or at least, it cannot live here anymore. We are too small, too stubborn, too unstable. What it needs most is a complete redesign and an influx of writers. Which is why, of this posting, the RP is being transferred over to the Seven Kingdoms RP section.

Why? I am coming up with a new sci-fi empire RP there which has a decent amount of interest. With luck (and a lot of elbow grease) it will live on there. Sure, maybe not in the same form. But it will live on.

Well attempts to write a good story here are doomed to failure.

I'd advise more liberal use of the GMhammer... but Fen is indeed correct.

Maybe we should've tried harder. Maybe we could've just had fun instead of the inevitable arguments. Hell, maybe we'd have been more stable without these RPs.

And yet here we are; consigning three years, hundreds of pages, thousands of posts, and a unique and fascinating sci-fi universe to oblivion. Is it the right descicion? Probably. Can't help but feel we may have killed something important here, though.

So I return to the RP after weeks of inactivity and I see 6 pages of everyone ignoring the fact that I actually did invent antigravity, Fen and Shadow being all "Hard Scifi best Scifi", Vinyl being Hexalan propaganda machine and everyone giving up on the RPs and what, moving everything to that seven kingdoms thing I've been too lazy to get familiar with?

Dammit, and I had just thought of new ideas for my faction..

I'm not arguing about hard sci-fi. I'm arguing that, here in the FC forums, the RP is unsustainable because there are too few writers and we are too stubborn.

Moving it to SKRP gives it the boost in writers it needs to survive.

Hard sci fi is a new race not having the ability to manipulate/negate gravity?
