Besides the fact that you could blockade cities with 4-16 ships by just parking and turning point defence on.

Given the range of starship-grade PD, you could blockade a city with two or three.

That makes your ship even more ridiculous.

I- what? You have a 1.7km ship that can LAND. That is... that's insane, Error. You'd need, like, a mass effect drive from like fuckin' Soverign or something to land that *.

I, too, agree that in order to land a thing that size, it would need to be specifically engineered towards that capability, cutting back on other functionality.

Re: Once More, With Feeling
Considering it already hybridized perfectly a battleship and carrier, I don't feel like this is too much of a stretch. And I thought I stated in the past antigravs are a thing. 'Scuse, re-reading thread.
Considering, you know, in this universe we've got a small furry species with pychic powers, a massive genetically-engineered army that apparently was created over the span of about ten years, and a race of giant avians who cross dimensions.
Just my opinions, though.

An upsized Bengal is not a thing that works in FC.

Re: Once More, With Feeling
You know what? have landing ability if you want. Just keep in mind that due to there being the ground, you may not be able to use hardlight or plasma shields, as they have to wrap around the ship to function, which is impossible with, you know, the ground being there. Also you'll have a hard time fighting any space tagrets because gravity (and, for energy weapons, atmosphere) is working against you. In the meantime, destroying your ship would be as easy as orbital bombarement.

Re: Once More, With Feeling
^he gets it.
Everything a ship can do has a countermeasure of some kind. Landing? Shields don't work and you can't really hit stuff in orbit. And let's face it, landing a starship doesn't grant the faction using it some astonishing advantage.
(Except maybe the Hexalani. They can just land a single transport and swamp you with a few brigades of troops.)
Also, I'm an idiot - if artificial gravity exists (it does), antigravs do, too. Calculate the gravity of whatever you're landing on and use the a-grav to mimic that pull, in the opposite direction. Blam, instant antigravs.

Re: Once More, With Feeling
If landing is so awful, why did you make it a feature.

Because I wanted to. More or less why I do anything here. If landing is so awful, why are you complaining?

Re: Once More, With Feeling
I'm complaining because Novus, which are apparently the gods of engineering, made an absolute blunder for no reason? And also, if you've acknowledged how awful it is, why are you still on the defensive?
