Two new Cutter class cruisers have been built, They are being field tested to improve designs.

Research has hypothesized concepts about redirective combat fields, The use of strong magnetic field generators to form an artificial magnetosphere around a spacecraft and covering this field with plasma to disrupt incoming rounds possibly deflecting them entirely or weakening larger rounds. Further experiments into the matter are being made.

A small mining company,is just starting in the market. Using old decomissioned freighters and even refubirshed rockets,it execute minor mining and escort operations across the Sol system.

Military: Very basic. All freighters have mining lasers,that could be used for protection if needed.

Scientific: Almost non-existent. Research is limited to mining and refining operations.

Fleet: Small,mostly small-cargo freighters and work-pods [One-seat mining "drones" ]

The Venture is a simple freighter design. Can support a crew of 3 people and have a generous cargo hold.
Uses the BEE shuttles to mine and cargo management

Just pointing out, railguns are far from being counted as "crude". As of now, I think the basic weaponry is railguns against actual ships and lasers for point-defense or anti-fighter.
Not to mention piracy is pretty well in check I think, so putting railguns on a civilian ship is pretty unjustified. Best I could think of would be mining lasers that could double as weapons in energency situations honestly.

The Nivanshae have managed to invent a time machine. Critics acclaim it is just a cardboard box with some marker drawings on it but top Nivanshae scientists state it is truly a highly advanced machine. Capable of traveling one second per second forward in time. Going backwards has yet to be invented but scientists state "who wants to go back in time anyway? I want my scifi lasers and stuff not crossbows and bad tech!".
