Seclusion

Scenario: This system, S-M172 (commonly called Seclusion), is beyond the outer rim of the galaxy. It's weeks away from the nearest outpost, making any outside support impossible (hence the name). Seclusion is almost entirely self-sufficient, which makes mining, farming, and manufacturing very important (and lucrative). Multiple governments use the system for research and testing.

System: Seclusion is comprised of a mid-sized yellow star (similar to Sol) five planets, and one dwarf planet.

Marrus: System's sun

1. Caldus: A small, hot, rocky planet with a few colonies. Most of its colonies are deep underground, in mined hollows. Surface colonies are located near the poles.

2. Hescel: mid-sized, warm, heavily colonized planet. Around 40% of it's surface is liquid water. Cities and large agricultural facilities dot the land, shielded from violent windstorms. Marine cities are scattered on the ocean floor. Native flora and fauna are plentiful.

3. Halar: A gas giant about 1/3 the size of Jupiter. Several mining facilities are embedded within the solid core. High-atmosphere gas harvesting is a common practice.

4. Eiran: The second gas planet. It is much larger and more turbulent than Halar, making any core construction impossible. Some gas mining is done by companies with the resources.

5. Starit: Large, cold, rocky planet. It's thick atmosphere makes it just warm enough to not kill everything instantly. Deep oceans exist under a layer of ice. These oceans harbor the small amount of native life on the planet. Large amounts of land are unused, though there are some large cities.

-The Shard: An irregularly shaped dwarf planet. No atmosphere. Strange energy readings have been taken from the planet. Every attempt at colonization has failed.

Name- Ash
Background- Ash is the son of Darius, an extremely successful miner. His company, Galactic Exploitation, owned trillions worth in credits in materials, equipment, and manpower. It was nearly invulnerable, since it was spread over ten thousand worlds. Any drop somewhere could be brought up elsewhere.

This company, though, was brought down by Darius himself. During a trip to a distant mining colony, a previously unknown lifeform ambushed and attacked the group. They repelled it, but Darius was seriously injured. This wasn't much of a concern at the moment. He quickly recovered and resumed his control over the company. But soon, he began making rash decisions. At first, people thought he was trying new approaches, but as time went on, it became clear he was dooming the company. After he bought several inhospitable, useless planets at imposing prices, the board of directors decided to remove him from power and replace him with Ash. The message was sent to the company HQ, but due to unforseen gravitational anomalies, it arrived nearly a month later. By then, it was too late.

Darius had, in that time, decided to attempt exploitation of the Galactic Core. He didn't have the funds to get the best technology to accomplish this task, but he was determined. After recalling most of the remaining mining assets, he amassed them around the black hole. Many didn't show, as they had fled out of fear. The rest, mainly those who couldn't afford to lose their job, arrived. First, Darius activated the two orbiting gravitational matrices. One positive polarity, the other negative. The gravitational field began to weaken.

Unfortunately, it had some side effects. Several nearby systems destabilized as a result and collapsed. Most of them were unusable and unhospitable, but one, Ferrous IV, was habitated by several empires. It collapsed, killing millions. A few ships escaped, traced the instabilities to the core, and jumped to the system.

Back in the core, the black hole's event horizon was decreasing. As this occured, Darius ordered the first few ships to attempt extraction. They were quickly crushed by tidal forces. Undaunted, Darius ordered a 200% output increase on both polarity beams. Gravity weakened further, but Darius wasn't pleased. Finally, he ordered the unthinkable- Cross the beams. Outright, several ships rejected his command and jumped away. Both stations refused as well, and began to power down. Furious, Darius stormed onto the first, killed everyone in the command room, and siezed remote control of the other. He would do it himself.

Darius began to align the transmitter beams himself to cross them. Meanwhile, every ship was jumping away. Both stations were being evacuated, and Darius' personal ship was taken. Nobody took any notice. As the transmitters began to lock into place, a massive ship jumped in. The Merlion. Darius noticed it powering weapons, and quickly realigned several transmitters to target the ship. It fired- just as the ship fired.

As both beams collided, a massive positronic fusion reaction occurred. The station destabilized and fell into the black hole, dragging the other with it. The ship was critically damaged and soon scuttled. Darius was lucky enough to escape with his life. The core regained control soon after, and gravity returned to normal.

At the galactic council, Darius faced charges of illegal mining, irresponsible gravity manipulation, first degree genocide, and countless others. As part of the process, his entire physique was analyzed and processed for the trial. Several governments wanted to skip this process, because they wanted to deal with him quickly. But the Commonwealth upheld it, so they grudgingly accepted. If sentenced, he wouldn't face just execution, but several years of torture, torture beyond anything known to normal beings. He couldn't get a lawyer. Ash didn't know, he was on vacation in a distant system. There was no case for him. But when his physique report came back in, something odd was discovered.

An unknown biotoxin was discovered inside his body. The laboratory couldn't identify the source, so Darius was taken to the laboratory. The scientists quickly identified several organic pods within his body, which had not been seen before. They were releasing the biotoxin. The toxin was altering his brain chemistry, causing him to make rash decisions. How it did was not understood at the time. But with the trial so near, they couldn't find out. They decided to remove the pods and then send him to the trial. Which, as always, was a mistake.

It released massive amounts of a different, well known toxin once touched. This one also alters brain chemistry. But instead, it destroys memories and makes the person incredibly irrational. There was nothing to be done about it because of the trial. In the courtroom, he lost control when he couldn't answer several important questions and was sedated. He was declared insane and an amnesiac soon after. But with no remaining money, there was no treatment. He was held in an asylum until someone could be his representative, and nobody stepped forward. The court tired of this, then traced his family line. The only known relative was Ash, and he was forcefully pulled from vacation.

Since he was very remote, he knew nothing of the case or his father's vacation. He took what he could find out and cobbled together a poor excuse for a case. He was unable to disprove anything, unable to stop anything. Due to his condition, Darius was spared from prison or torture; however, he was confined to exile. Ash, being the only known relative, was sued by thousands for compensation for the lives lost in Ferrous. He declared total bankruptcy. The bank then took everything else he had, but it still left him several billion in debt.

After several years of wandering in an outdated recon vessel, Ash was contacted by a mining company by the name of Extraction Solutions Inc. They were close friend with Darius before, and recently heard of his plight. They were willing to offer him a basic contract to stave off his debt, in the extremely distant Seclusion system. This also fulfilled his father's exile penalty, whom was on Ash's ship, and the Commonwealth was beginning to pressure him. Ash accepted.

He arrived in Seclusion a few weeks later.

Other Info- Essentially a slave because of his situation. Carries a deranged/amnesiac father on his ship at all times. Used to be treated to the finest luxuries in the galaxy. The galaxy is a cruel place.
