Genocide

Post by Error » Wed Aug 27, 2014 1:07 pm

January 23rd, 2245; the date that the Terran Delta Canopis Colony Fleet arrived. The day they finally, after twenty years, six months, five days, disengaged Fuchida Drive and saw their new home.

Just one problem; their destination was inhabited.

In orbit over Delta Pavonis II, the fleet Admiral, Davies, declared they could not colonize - and terraform - a world already inhabited. Pre-industrial or not, reptilian or not, and twenty years in F-Drive be damned, they would not commit genocide.

Shortly thereafter, the flagship, Star of Terra, went dark. Commanders waited nervously, expectantly, and quietly until the announcement came:

"This is Fleet Admiral Barian. We have come too far to turn back. This world is ours; all ships, prepare to begin colonization."

Welcome to 2245 Terran civilization. Or the edge of it, anyhow.

Background//

Since the unification of Earth under the United Nations Interstellar Administration, the homeworld has been sending their overflowing population out to other worlds. Proxima Centauri was first; then Barnard's Star, Capella, Alpha Ceti, Sigma Draconis. And now Delta Pavonis.

Rules and Restrictions//

Technology here is similar to what one might find in Halo; kinetics and lasers exist, fusion and plasma generators provide power, ships are large and bulky, and humanity constantly scrabbles with itself.

AI, high-speed FTL, shields, anti-gravs, and other such things are still the realm of fiction.

Rules are the standard RP set.

You//

You are a Captain, Commander, or Admiral in charge of one of the fleet's many ships. You could command a colony ship, with thousands aboard; perhaps a transport, filled with equipment; a small few will command military ships, tasked with defense.

The intention here is a fusion of ERP and FPRP, with you leading a sizable force of people. Instead of vague, seldom-mentioned leaders, you rely on charisma, skill, personality, or fear to control and lead your people.

I will only accept a few military vessels. Bear in mind civilian ships often greatly exceed military ones in populatiln; military vessels rarely have more than 5,000 crew. All military ships are U.N. UNSV.

Star of Terra
Colony and Command Vessel, Solar Queen-class
F-ADM Lucas Barian
30,000 Pop. & Crew
At five kilometers in length, two in height, and 2.5 in width, the Star is the pride of the fleet. With massive housing, storage, and hangar bays, the ship embodies the concept of a colony vessel perfectly. Composed of two massive rectangular blocks, joined in the center and flanked by huge thruster arrays, she isn't overly pretty, but gets the job done and then some.
Originates from U.S., England, and France - joint project.

UNSV Blink of an Eye
Sensor and Exploration Vessel (In reality, stealth operations vessel)
CMDR Taylor Hood
127 Crew
Measuring in at a whopping 236 meters in length, the UNSV Blink of an Eye isn't much to look at; literally. A flattened-cylinder hull, with downswept 'wings' and a sensor-laden tailplane, is difficult to see with her black paint job. /Meta-Knowledge:/ Equipped with a Stealth Refractive System, Internal Emission Sink, thruster shrouding, and RADAR-absorbent paint, the vessel spends much of her time docked to the Star.
Armed with four point-defense laser arrays. One ventral-mount 330mm railgun. 6 VLS tubes, obtensibly for probes and sensor drones.

Taylor Hood
42
Canadian
172cm height, with fairly unremarkable features and black hair. Notable green eyes. Always bedecked in an Office of United Nations Intelligence uniform; a black version of dress whites, with the distinctive eye-overlying-a-delta insignia.
OUNI Commander and operative. Assigned to the fleet as per normal, as an observer and to ensure security. Relays data back to Earth regularly, and swears loyalty to the U.N. directly.

Okay... ripping off Mass Effect aside, any reason you save a Systems Alliance Admiral commanding a Quarian liveship on a UNIA expedition?

I'll say accepted, but do try to be original and creative in the future, please?

Looks good. Just be aware the UNIA tends to use British regimental names instead of American numbered ones. But looks good.

Barian stared at the viewscreens, the assembled fleet surrounding its flagship. Following his pronouncement, there had been a silence over the comm channels.

"This is Captain Eloheim of the Dresden. We are ready to begin deployment. Request a Marine presence aboard; we have reports of civilians rioting and a number of crew have sealed the engineering deck and are attempting to take control of the ship."

"Understood, Captain. Sword of Vengeance, this is Star of Terra. Dispatch four platoons of Marines to the Dresden. All other ships, please report in and stand by."

//UNSV Blink of an Eye//
"Seal hatches. Disengage clamps. Move clear of the flagship." Commander Hood ordered, bringing sensor displays up on his board. A slight hiss and thump followed, and the stealth corvette began drifting clear of the colony ship.

"Engage stealth systems."

"IES online. Shrouds deployed. EMCON active. Green across the board; we are running silent." reported the helmsman. Hood nodded.

"Move us to five-zero-zero kilometers ahead of the flagship. Passive sensors active. Let's see what the fleet's up to."

"Understood, Admiral. We will begin boarding operations immediately."
General Lynx activated the intercom to the troop holds, "Platoons 2, 4, 6, and 8, suit up and board your dropships. Platoon Lieutenants, you are receiving mission briefings... now. General Lynx out."

The marines were like a well oiled machine. Within 10 minutes, they were spaceborne. The landed in the main hangar of the Dresden, where 2nd Platoon set up a comms station and a security perimeter. 4th and 6th Platoons were sent to quell the riots, and 8th Platoon was sent to breach the engine room.

"This is Lieutenant Johnson of 2nd Platoon, we've secured the hangar and 8th Platoon is moving toward the engine room. Requesting further orders, General."
"Keep the hangar secured. We can reinforce you easily from there. Lynx out."

8th Platoon had no trouble getting to the engine room. There, they began cutting their way through the blast doors.

Hell Frozen Over
Dark Tower class Science Vessel, Cruiser Size
Captained by Hendrix Jahgrin
500 crew, 400 of which are Civilians. The rest are soldiers (because the science is valuable!)
Spoiler:
Image
Image shamelessly used
Looks like this, except the front and back turret is a comprehensive sensor suite.
500 meters long
Nation of Origin: Spain.
If Military, Armaments:
2x Low-power Laser turrets (For breaking up asteroids for samples and such, hardly usable offensively). These are center turrets, one on top and one on the bottom.
[META KNOWLEDGE] The ship also holds an extremely-powerful high-power beam laser, mounted dorsally. The laser runs the length of the ship and exits through an opening panel on the front. Officially, this section of the ship is part of the plasma core which powers it; in actuality, the plasma core surrounds the laser system, running its length. Only Hendrix knows it exists. Hendrix, and the Spanish Admiral that mandated it be installed. It has never been used, and it is not known to the Admiral of this fleet. [/META]

Name: Hendrix Jahgrin
Age: 28
Nationality: Spanish
Description: Though born in Spain, both of his parents were American immigrants, and as such, he grew up learning both languages. He is tall at 6 ft 5 inches, with black hair and green eyes. He is relatively handsome. He is highly intelligent and very deeply analytic, and very introverted.
Overview: Hendrix is a scientist at heart, dedicated to knowledge and in pursuit of a better humanity. He is very reasonable and logical, and refuses to take action that directly harms another human. (or sentient, as we see). But he is relatively all-business and not too involved with personal matters, and doesn't enjoy face-to-face interactions.

Hendrix sighed as he turned towards the viewscreen. The officer behind him scurried out of the room as Hendrix reached for the console. He cleared his throat.

"This is Captain Jahgrin of Hell Frozen Over. We ask to conduct a full inquiry into the nature of the natives and their habitats before we make a decision."

Inquiry be damned, this was ridiculous.

Barian raised an eyebrow at the XO, who highlighted the vessel.

"Captain Jahgrin, orbital observation reveals a pre-industrial society. Apparently reptilian creatures, though that's the extent of our knowledge. If you wish to send a science team to observe them while the fleet prepares, you may do so; one dropship."

General Lynx added onto the message, "Admiral, that science team is going to need an escort. I can send 4 Force Recon marines down with them. We have no clue as to how these reptiles will react."

The intercom system crackled again, "This is General Lynx, prepare for debarkation. Tanks should be loaded onto their transports, platoons should stand by their dropships, and artillery should be ready for transport. Gunships should be prepped for takeoff. Everything on Alert 10. I say again, Alert 10. Force Recon 1, prepare for ship-to-ship transport."
