Blegh, need to get on this.

"Phantasma likely has very sophisticated EWAR abilities," Corinth said. "From your scan data, it is using bleeding-edge technology. I doubt we can simply 'hack' into it." Corinth moved to one of the many computer terminals and typed in a few commands.

"A nuclear detonation at close range would expel enough EM radiation that any shielding wouldn't be capable of stopping it, effectively shutting down any systems not properly shielded. Given the inconvenience of building Faraday cages for every piece of equipment, we doubt it's equipped with them. Nuclear weapons are our best bet at crippling it." He sighed. "But if you're against that, we have another option. An experimental weapon." He typed in a few commands, and brought up a picture on the screen, detailing a ship weapon. It was hexagonal in nature. The back end held several vents and tubes, serving as the main component. The front barrel was short, and perforated with holes. '-CLASSIFIED: LEVEL O-4 PERSONNEL ONLY-', was sprawled across the bottom of the picture.

"We call it the Magnetar."

"That sounds dramatic. Focused EMP projector?"

Alternis calmed slightly once the discussion moved away from nukes. He wasn't at home with WMDs.

"Close," Corinth replied, "But no. It's a magnetic projector. Projects looped field lines, similar to a solar flare." ((DETAILED FUNCTION: It projects a tight magnetic field directly in front for a kilometer or so, which remains tight like a beam. Once it reaches the termination point, the fields spread out and loop back to the weapon, completing the field. The weapon spins to act like a dynamo.))

"Magnetic?" Alternis said. "How powerful is this?"

"Tests have induced powerful currents in equipment and ripped apart metal objects. But, there is a catch."

"Catch?"

"It's still experimental for one reason," Corinth said. "The magnetic field lines can get, well, twisted."

"Twisted?"

"And if that happens, the field line will break and reconnect. Which will send a jolt of energy through the system. Through your ship."

"I may have a solution. Connect the secondary fusion drive to the thong, and unless it sends a pulse through the hull itself, the secondary systems are isolated. Essentially backups."

(Memory, like most NS ships, mounts a secondary powerplant and drive, hard-isolated from the main system. Following the expensive-but-miraculously-capable model.)

"Also. How are you going to explain a known explorer and tracker defending a convoy? It's not like I normally travel armed."

"Sensor obfuscation. Your ship is small enough that we can change a parameter or two in the magnetic field that protects it, completely changing the signature." He typed in a few commands. "And as for the weapon, it might work. The energy pulse is electricity and various particles. Unfortunately, these particles tend to be driven through the field and back through the weapon, which can cause all sorts of havoc. Including detonation, if it gets overloaded."

"Hardpoints can be ejected - explosively - if something goes down. How about I prep my ship for the mounting and attack, you prep your gun to stop it exploding?"

Aboard Memory - or more specifically, in the computer systems integrated into the ship - Laura watched the UAD Marine team complete its brief inspection and depart. Settling down, she continued to observe through the sensors, and listened to the comm frequencies; including the feed the the tiny microphone in Alternis' collar.

OOC, yes, there is a (hidden) AI aboard the ship, currently doing the electronic equivalent of staring in the window.

OOC: Fenway I assume error will be 'guarding' me and were currently in a bubble of differing times so heres my post till whenever error derps along and meets up with me:
----------------
The Frozen Light rotated 180 degrees after exiting the gate above the mun and ran a decent burn to slow down along with thrusting out of the way to avoid other ships passing through to the other gate, Orbiting the Earth once the Light switched over to the moon's orbit and landed near the designated hanger owned by Chaos Industries, The moons low gravity allowing the Light to land on the surface on a landing pad. Tajer radioed the quartermaster the designated order number disguised as a standard set of fighters for transport and opened the hanger-side doors and waited for them to load.

OOC: Shadow, technically, the UAD wants those fighters, but our Phantasma friend wants them before the UAD can get their warrant to take then. So technically, you're about to clash with the UAD (Error's supposed to be guarding the fighter convoy as a trap).

"Acknowledged Frozen Light. You arrived just in time. Our friends got their warrant and are on their way."

They started loading the fighters as quickly as they could.

Alternis clibed aboard his ship as the technicians put the finishing touches on the Magnetar.

Bringing up his tablet, he opened a command line and began typing.

>Were you detected?
>>No. They only conducted a physical inspection.
>You have anything solid on the speedy bastard?
>>Not as such. Scan data is... sketchy, at best.
>I can imagine. Anything interesting on the commwaves?
>>Nothing in particular. NS is hyping the hell out of their new ship.
>When are they not? Anything else of note?
>>Not at the moment. Correction, I just flooded some freighter with a few terabytes of explicit material.
>You spammed them with *.
>>You seem surprised.
>You're very un-ladylike sometimes.
>>I'll take that as a compliment.

Dmitri arrived over Earth, and completed his transaction without any trouble. While there, he began experiencing a strange computer error, receiving a mysterious message he could neither open nor delete. He picked up some supplies, and began to head out to his asteroid to do some work on it himself.
