I am 85% certain this is an authentic depiction of a Novan mid-tier spaceship

Because you all kept complaining about how the epaulettes for the dress uniforms can be easily confused for however long you did that, here's one of the several other ways to identify your superiors/subordinates.
(They're either in the "medal position" or the "patch position". They are also either a pin (for dress uniforms) or (for armor) printing.)
Spoiler:

I define the "medal position" as placed on the top left/right of the torso (like a medal on an officer's uniform), and the "patch position" as placed on the upper arm/shoulder (like a squadron patch on a flight jacket). I suppose you could also put them on a cap or beret or something too.
Also some of the other other ways to identify them are: collar pins, differentiated armor pauldrons, alternate uniform/armor color scheme, knowing who they are at sight, and also their HXCIDNS which is printed on their uniform/armor.

Oh, also, if anyone would like to ask questions even just vaguely related to hexafugg I'd be over-willing to answer them. Even if it's just a joke! Ha. Haha. *Sobs*

See, now that works. Easily differentiated, and can be done easily in low-vis colouring.

FYI rank markers are traditionally either on the epaulettes or center of the chest - officers' insignia are sometimes on the collar. Squadron / ship / whatever patches are right shoulder; flag is left (IIRC).

After some research I have found that most armed forces do use the positions named by Error for their primary (i.e. easiest to identify) rank insignia, at least on battle dress, though the lack of other positions is probably due to tactical vests and other gear usually obstructing other positions (such as Vinyl's "medal position"), but I imagine a high-tech power armor as used by Hexalan may circumvent such issues.

I placed them as such for ease of manual identification during combat as, again, the HUD on the armor, eyepiece, and optical implant automatically paint and ID friendlies. Epaulettes are only featured on dress uniforms, they'd get in the way on the armor.

The real names are in 'Fake Space English?'.

There also really isn't anything like promotion. You're placed in the position you best fill straight out of the Academy.

Also, yeah, you absolutely could. It really wouldn't make a difference.

And I kind of also would've done that if back when I made the list of ranks with the epaulettes know how to make the canvas bigger to fit the Second Class bits so I just put 2 at the end, and when I copied them over onto the symbols I mostly just ignored that part as there's 31 ranks.
