Schizo Tech

I figured I'd attempt one more FPRP, for shiggles.

Schizo Tech - not just a name. In this world, an alternate Terra in 2097, things are... off. Somewhere in the past, an unknown entity tweaked the timeline, resulting in this.

In short, schizo tech is a universe of steam and gears, high-tech gadgets and futuristic archaic devices. Swords clash as blasters will the air with bullets, arcanists throw magical energy as warriors clad in elaborate power armour swing giant warhammers. Think steampunk + cyberpunk + futurecraft + magic.

The game will function as a hybrid of FPRP and ERP; everyone will play individuals, but you can influence the world from sheer effort, or a position of power.

Standard RP rules apply, with one extra: try to keep things fun for everybody.

Magic? Technology?
Spoiler:
Yep. Magic and tech coexist here, mostly. Spies use magic to find what they need, doctors use tech to heal, soldiers use both to fight, and everyone can tap into one or the other.

Combat specialists (which I assume most/all of you wil be) often use both. Swordbearers use it to give their blades that extra edge - gunslingers unload bottomless magazines at enemies - some people just throw raw elemental magic at their foes, often with highly reactive results.

Your Magical Aptitude and Tech Aptitude reflect this - how good you are with the aforementioned abilities.
Where do you start?
Spoiler:
The Strigiforme Republic - Led by ACH

"Welcome, recruit.

You have been selected to serve the Republic. Your skills, intelligence, and aptitude are all excellent. You shall soon have the privilege of serving beside the best our nation can offer.

Please report to Section Six to begin."

Northlands Alliance - Leader TBD
"Howdy.

I'm glad to see so many of you folks here. We could use the recruitment. Now, I know you all are wondering what exactly the Militia entails... in short, it's a military with less regulation. Now, to keep things short, you'll be fightin' for the Allianne and queen and country.

So... enjoy the ride. Some of you might not make it back - hell, most of you won't. So if you wanna back out, nobody blames you. If not, head down that-a-way, talk to Sergeant Alistair. Good luck, you poor sods."

Australian Free State - Leader TBD
"Nice to see you lot.

Right, you're in the army now. So stand up straight. You're going to go report to Sergeant-Commander Durren for your training assignments. Hope you like the heat, gods know you'll be feelin' it often enough. Dismissed."

Exiles and Drifters
"Hm?

You got exiled? Welcome to the club, mate. Yeah, yeah, it's bad, but hey, you'll get used to it. Have a drink on me... and I hope youcan use them weapons you're packing. You'll need 'em."

Are Exiles like convicts? If I walk into a country will I get ganked by the cops or something?

Not necessarily, they either got booted out (exiles) or left voluntarily (drifters).

And for the record, unrealistically awesome airships are a thing.

by Professor Fenway
Name: Demivian Rawlens
Age: 25
Species: Terran
Profession or Specialization: Technology specialist/expert, field engineer/nano engineer.
Magical Aptitiude and Tech Aptitude: Tech aptitude is 20, magic aptitude is 0
Biography or Backstory: Demivian's town was raided in early childhood by terrorists belonging to the Xeality Church, a fanatical organization dedicated to wiping out what they call 'heretics,' or quite simply, everyone who isn't them. They swept through the town systematically, exterminating everyone who refused conversion or resisted at all. They took all women, who they carted away to be used as slaves. Demivian and his parents managed to hide until the very end, when a passing Xeality patrol caught them. As 'punishment' for hiding, the patrol slaughtered his parents in front of him extremely graphically using magic (think dismemberment combined with removal of internal organs. In front of a three year old). They then began to torture Demivian extensively before leaving him to die in the ruins of his house. A Republic patrol came not long after, routed out the Xeality, and saved Demivian from certain death. Now, Demivian has focused this into pure hatred and rage. He cannot tolerate magic in any form, and refuses to use it, and will ruthlessly slaughter anyone not on his side who uses it offensively, non-combatant or otherwise. He is extremely gifted with tech of all forms, but magic will always be out of his reach.
Overview: Demivian generally friendly and agreeable, but very quick to anger whenever the discussion switches to magic. He is diagnosed with severe, permanent PTSD and takes medication constantly to alleviate the symptoms. This works in tandem with several implants that block out any recollection of his childhood memories. While the medication has little effect, the implants always leave him completely emotionless and unable to empathize with others at all. Due to frequent episodes from PTSD, he finds it very difficult to form lasting relationships of any kind.

Decisions can be made in split seconds as all communication is internal and thus is instantaneous and unmistakable, making them all very thoroughly explorable, meaning everything is only a matter of time.

by ACH0225
Name: Kyr Vyakii
Age: 208
Species: Strigiforme
Profession or Specialization: Marksowl(sniper), also has some training in physical combat
Magical Aptitiude and Tech Aptitude: Magic-4, Tech-9
Biography or Backstory: The son of a(now deceased) military father, descended from a long line of military owls, Kyr was fully expected to do great things. As the 3rd child, he received neither his family's estate nor any substantial amount of money. As such, he had no funds to attend a military command school, and had to become one of the Republic's many grunts. When his squad was assigned their roles, his noticeably sharp eyes were recognized and he was made the squads sniper. After a short but successful career of sniping in a squad environment, Kyr was offered a position as a solo sniper, being deployed in long distance recon missions, which required individuals of particular skill.
Overview: Fairly silent, but fully capable and willing to butt into conversations if he knows something about the topic. Not antisocial. Like most Strigiforme, he is a gourmand and can fully appreciate a good meal and drink, especially after living on sparse hunting fare and MREs.

Looks good all 'round; welcome aboard.

For flavour, there's currently a bush war going on in the southern end of North America (where Texas would be, roughly), and most nations ('cept the aussies) are deploying there to a) stop it or b) get the natives on their side.

Does this mean we're not space faring wizards?

No space. But you can be an airshipping wizard.

Given that this is steampunky, it's contained on one planet (for now).

Can you sketch up a map?

Er... maybe. Give me a few minutes.

For now, think "Earth", but the Republic owns Europe, Asia, and the northern part of Africa; the Alliance owns the Nordics, the noerthern end of N. America, and a few islands in the North Pacific, and the Aussies own Australia (duh?), New Zealand, Papa New Guinea, most of the South Pacific, and have a few small colonies in S. America.

Everywhere else is whatever the locals make of it.

EDIT: BEHOLD MY AMAZING PAINT SKILLS. Map in the OP.
