Just because a material is dense, doesn't mean that light can't pass through it. Arconic alloy is designed to only allow the visible light spectrum through, and it is relatively dense (about 1.5 times that of steel). For reference, the density of glass ranges from 2400 kg per cubic meter to 8000 kg per cubic meter. Steel is approximately 8000 kg per cubic meter, and thus density isn't a main factor as to whether an object is transparent or not. An object is transparent if visible light penetrates it without scattering; we can make opaque glass, so in the future, why couldn't we make transparent metal?

In addition, this alloy is specifically designed to allow visible light through; nothing else. Infrared (heat energy) and ultraviolet (causes cancer) does not penetrate the matter. So your heat beam would not enter the ship through the windows, merely stop on it. And besides, energy shields stop those anyway.

Aluminum oxide (corundum) is almost as hard as diamond... diamond itself is transparent. The density of a material isn't the deciding factor in transparency (or strength) at all, it's the crystalline structure.
