Standard Faction/Race Information Sheet Format

Post by cats » Mon Apr 28, 2014 6:23 am

The first order of business for the Board is to create a standard information sheet for factions and races. The faction sheet should cover the basics of the faction's history before introduction to the galactic community, constants such as technological specialties and cultural fundamentals, government, and general emphasis of certain aspects like economy and military. Before we go too deeply into that, however, we need to discuss some things, particularly the fate of Earth and other ground rules.

The race sheet will be simpler, it has to be detailed enough for someone that didn't found a race to use that race. We will write the info for humans.

Faction Info Sheet and Timeline Entry Format
Spoiler:
Alrighty, we still need a beginning faction sheet format. I think a timeline is the easiest way to arrange the history, then we can adequately keep track of correlations and we wouldn't have to write another completely different sheet for post-galactic introduction. The downside to this would be that there would be tons of entries and each person would have to keep track of their information, but we'd get the most comprehensive information. We'd still have to have a bit at the beginning, though. Every timeline entry would have to abide by the entry format.

If a faction is divided into major provinces or districts, then basic information will need to be written about them as well if there are any notable differences.

If this isn't about the format I'd recommend renaming the title.

As far as Earth goes I'm in favor of making it Jerusalem in space - a place of pilgrimage for the billions of humans spread out across the galaxy who'd otherwise never see their true home. As such it's a point of contention as to who actually 'owns' the planet, much like its RL counterpart. For the most part, though, the human factions respect its solidarity given its status as pretty much universal sacred ground. And to clear something up once and for all, iirc we decided Terran was a term used for humans born on the 'motherworld', gifted with superior strength and durability from growing up in the high-gravity environment. Well, at least relative to your normal human, who's raised in the distant parts of the galaxy and spends most of his life in space.

I still maintain my position of humans as being basically cockroaches to the rest of the galaxy, no matter what flavor, because they're so common. Other races tend to be much longer lived by comparison, however.

Tiel's thing sounds good, though remember, there are actually a couple of sub-species of humans at this point, you there's some creative flavours of cockroaches.

Also, they're roaches with one helluva bite on them.

Jerusalem IN SPACE! seems fine to me.

I, too, continue to support the Space Jerusalem idea, as I always have.
And I don't see why non-Terran humans would be so much weaker than Terran ones; after all, wouldn't we mainly choose to settle on planets with gravity similar to that of earth? Like, just taking a stab in the dark, somewhere between 0.7 and 1.3 G?

AFAIK most humans would grow up in .8g - 1.3g environments.

Eg. Novus it .87g surface gravity, but Hahnsak is 1.14g, so there wouldn't be much difference.

Defacto Israel owns Jerusalem, Jordan runs the Temple Mount and is given relative freedom there but Israel kept a right to intervene there if needed, so the comparison doesn't rly work.

It will make sense to give ownership of that place to a faction. I wanted to take the Solar system and nobody else wanted to, if you really hate me Tiel you can take care of it , but by take care of it I mean TAKE CARE of it, not your AI-like thingies. It is pretty much accepted already and diff lores are already based off it, it will be hard to change it now anyway.

I kinda agree with the "nope, normal humans have strenght, too"-movement, otherwise jerusalem-in-space sounds good.
Edit: @Iv it works good enough
@cats even if this may only be for the GMs, others should still be able to state their opinion even if they were to not have decisive power

If the GMs need to discuss something without interruption, PMs can be sent to multiple people at once.

This is simpler and everyone can see what's happening. Just try to keep posting to a minimum if you're not Ach of Fenway.

I think the GMs should listen to the community, after all, if an idea is rejected by a great majority, it may not be a good idea to implement said idea. The roleplays are there for the community after all.

This is not the purpose of this thread. Suggestions are welcome as long as they're relevant, but take your complaints elsewhere.

I am in favor of the Space Jerusalem idea. Human is the official name, while Terran is the proper term (we've evolved.)

As of currently, I'd say Earth is under the collective oversight of every Terran faction there is. It is a neutral ground, nobody may exploit it, but it is host to millions of terrans or humans who've been allowed to live on it, so long as they do not terribly disturb the planet or it's ecosystem, which is being restored. Massive terra-forming and cleanup operations are ongoing to return the planet to it's former glory, and each nation has a small dedicated defense fleet for Earth. These fleets are independent from the main military force and therefore are not obligated to the nation's wartime efforts.

Travel to Earth is limited and strictly controlled to prevent lasting damage to it. Foreign species introduction is not allowable under any circumstances. A significant defense network is in place to stop pirates, terrorists, or anarchists (and others) from defacing or landing on the planet illegally.

At least, that's what I think.
