At these coordinates, the 720 expedition found a massive installation built around a star. Dubbed the Akalash Ringworld, the installation was the single greatest find of any nation. It represented more resources, land, and technology than any other object discovered to date, save maybe the ARK stations, and every empire laid a claim on a part of it.
There was a problem, however. The entire surface of the ringworld was sealed. It could not be accessed.
The 721 and 722 expeditions found no entrance to the ringworld, and were completely unable to communicate with it. And thus, we sent the 723 expedition with a massive laser to burn through the shell to access it. In the process, we activated some sort of defense mechanism. 5 hours after activating the laser, the expedition noted several extremely distant structures in the system activating. Not long after, a massive energy flux in subspace was detected. Energy flowing from the ringworld to these structures, which we have named Relays.
In the days and weeks following the activation, a massive web of subspace energy was observed being created throughout the galaxy. Many of the nearby relays corresponded with locations of known ARK stations; this knowledge led to the immediate massive militarization of every nation.
Except the Strigiforme. They were confident, cocky, and assured that they could extinguish this threat without incident. They took a massive battle fleet and jumped to this ringworld. Several hours later, the fleet jumped back to Cuuyth, with a few ships lost, but otherwise unharmed. The Strigiforme rejoiced. The arrival of the fleet was shown across the sector; the transmission cut out as the flagship approached the capital, briefly silhouetted against the system's star. No further ships or transmissions came out of Strigiforme space.
Not long after, other systems simply dropped off the map entirely. No transmissions, no ships. They originated from Strigiforme space. Military forces were scrambled to defend further systems. Seconds before these systems fell as well, a flurry of communications was received from each fleet. The transmissions used a language not recognized by any algorithm or sentient, even those of the ARK stations.
Governments collapsed soon after. There was simply nothing to be done. Worlds fell into anarchy and any organized response became nonexistent. Small militia forces popped up here and there, sending out fleets to delay this sweeping darkness. None succeeded. As systems vanished, the last collection of ships resided over Earth.
And this fleet resolved to flight, not fight. And they... we... are still running. 10 years later.
We do not know the enemy. But we can keep running. We will run to the end of the universe.

For myself:
Ships
Every player is in control of one ship or another. There are many ships; very few of them are military, so you will probably be stuck with a civilian ship of some kind or another (Miner, freighter, maybe science or something). If there are too many military ship applications, I may ask you to change your ship. Once the RP starts, I will create a full fleet list; it will have every ship in the fleet, including the other's not under our (direct) command (NPC's).
Politics
There is a political system in place here. As of currently, it has been a military dictatorship (though that may change) under command of Hgalvan. The ranking is as follows;
Supreme Commander (Only one)
Admiral (three)
Captain (Everyone else)
In this current system, orders are handed down by superiors. An admiral, for example, can order captains under his command to do something, but he responds to the Supreme Commander's orders. The orders of superiors cannot be contested under this system by those under them, they just have to be done.
The political system can change, but it might not. For the current system, I will choose who fulfills each role (dictatorship). If events go down, the political system will be updated accordingly.
Realism
This RP is semi-realistic. As in, you have to get materials from planets and stuff to build things. Since we are on the run, large-scale building isn't really possible. You can't ass-pull stuff. Resources are pretty tight anyway; mining operations are limited in size and scope and the enemy is always coming. Be reasonable.
And not everyone is level headed. We've been running for 10 years; things are heating up.
Rules
Standard RP rules. Don't be an ass, don't pull things from nowhere, give others a chance, no godmodding, etc etc. We're pretty good so I shouldn't need to say anything.
