James was playing a rather tough match of chess with Ajax in Medbay, All of his 'tools' cleaned and stored away and all the annoying paperwork that came with being a CMO as finished, He gave the other two members of Medbay the rest of the shift off since no one had managed to hurt themselves yet. James moved his queen to a new spot on the board and stated 'check' with a smug grin on his face, There was absolutely positively no way Ajax could win now he had his king boxed in and James would finally beat the AI. Ajax moved his King in his last futile move, James went to move in for the kill when suddenly the ship shook with an explosion and the wall mounted klaxons started wailing signalling something really bad just happened. The holo-board dispeared before James could make his move as Ajax's "counciousness" moved elsewhere. James just stared at the spot for a momment, his hand still in the air holding the now noexistant holographic peice... "GOD DAMNITTTTTTT..." shouted James.

Humming to himself as he checked plant 13B, he thought of the relaxing time he was going to have after this with his tea down at the research lab. "Peppermint with honey" he said out load. Thinking again, "Also with a side of potatoes". Finishing up with 13B he moved on to 14B. Suddenly the ship rocked with a mighty force and the klaxons started blaring much to Scotty's annoyance. With all thoughts of tea and potatoes gone from his head, he rushed down to the research lab to find out what was going on.

Marcel was in the cockpit, piloting the Solis and occasionally arguing with Ajax. Arguments he usually lost.
"Asteroids up ahead." he said to the AI. "Can you give me details on it?"
A screen lit up, showing several lines of text and numbers, as well as a few charts.
"An asteroid belt, stretching around this system. The part ahead is rather dense, I would suggest avoiding it if possible."
"How dense?"
"Average space between asteroids is 462 meters. It's thinner just a few hundred thousand kilometers to the side, should I adjust the course?"
"Nah, we're already behind schedule. Speaking of which, any news on the FTL?"
"Still down, but it should be up and running soon enough."
Marcel opened up the ship intercom channel. "This is your pilot speaking, we're heading towards a tight asteroid field. You may experience some turbulence."

After fuming over the lost victory for a few moments James walks over to the intercom, selects medical staff, and states "All of you to Medbay now. Prepare for emergency first aid". He then selected bridge and said "This is CMO what the hell is going on". After that he turned and began pulling out first aid kits and started the precool processes on the statis tubes from his wrist PDA.

Marcel opened up the intercom to respond.
"Don't worry, we're just going through an asteroid field. The shields should take it but it'll be a bumpy ride, so stay away from sharp edges."
And just then, a stray asteroid broke through the shields and hit one of the engines.

James grabbed an emergency handle as the ship shook again, This time much more violently with the sounds of screeching tearing metal and the alarm klaxons changing from "The ship is being hit" to distant air alarms and to quote the manual "HOLY SHIT WERE ALL GOING TO DIE! alarms" otherwise known as the power drive going unstable alarms. Cursing silently James moved over to the medical hardsuit rack and began putting one on when [nondescript medical person 1] and [nondescript medical person 2] ran in. "You two, man the bay I'm heading down to engineering to see what broke" said James as he placed the hardsuit helmet on and ran out of the room.
