You are special.

The message driven into you throughout your life. The old adage, now with meaning. Three words.

You are special; more specifically, an Ascendant. A human, like many others, but with your own... twist.

//The Roleplay

Ascendant is all about powers, abilities, whatever you wish to term them. Some very special humans have these powers. The Ascendant are, for all intents and purposes, superhuman.

This naturally gave rise to conflict. Some wanted to subjugate normal humans. Some wanted to protect them. Some were in it for the thrill, or amusement.

Ascendant have all manner of abilities. Some are manioulative, bending others to their will. Some can call upon nature to do their bidding. Rarely, some can twist reality itself to their will.

//Earth 2022

Earth is a crapsack world. Rampant crime, pollution, corporate nations, oppressive governments and rebellions are all common. Some nations survived, some succipumbed to the lure of darkness.

The U.S. is marginally functional, with crime everywhere and rebellions every other week. Law is just barely maintained. Mexico has changed little, though they formed a trade and defense pact with most of the Carribean and Central American nations.

South America managed to clean up some, mainly by allowing the Brazilian Mining Conglomerate to take over. Good, if you don't mind the corporate monopoly on everything.

Europe is slowly descending into chaos. Lack of resources and an attack by French rebels managed to seed distrust between governments. Everything looks alright on the surface, but the region is about to snap.

The U.K., Ireland, and Scandanavia managed to scrape throug intact. England has surveillance everywhere, but is alright; Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland (plus Iceland) are actually quite lovely, at the cost of almost no non-governmental businesses.

The Commonwealth as a whole is fractured somewhat. The realms (Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa) are pretty much unchanged since 2010, but the rest of the alliance of nations is degenerating into the third-world chaos known to Africa in the early 2000s.

Asia is gone. China was subject to four simultaneous revolts, and Japan was lost under the screaming Chinese hordes soon after. India tried and failed to repel the new threat, which has since become a feudal society.

Russia held together, to a degree, and "stabilized" the Middle East. The Russian Federation and Protectorates enjoy a relative peace, punctuated by terrorism and democratic revolts every so often. Notably both Israel and Saudi Arabia evaded the Russians, and formed a mutual defensive pact.

Northern Africa has been conquered by the Egyptians, and is now held in a dictatorship similar to Russia's. They have little contact with the outside.

Southern Africa is almost a shining example of a nation. South Africa grew tired of the warfare to the immediate north, and moved in to stop it. They succeeded, and now South Africa is a first-world nation encompassing almost a billion people. Occasional riots and protests occur, but are mostly contained.

Standard RP stuff. Additionally, rule zero will be enforced here, due to the blurriness of the standard rules.
Reality-warping is limited to GMs, mainly as an in-universe retconner and anti-OPess ability.

This is meant to be similar to cats' former Vanguard RP, but set in 2022 Earth with less sci-fi and more of a Paranoia / Cyberpunk feel.

If you're being fairly reasonable (as in class 6 or below, to use Vanguard's scale) you're okay, as ascendancies develop later on. So everything will eventually go up to eleven.
