Small quick-response squads are being sent to Orion Confederation.

Purpose: Help with the reconstruction.

--------

Stardocks are being put to maximum building capacity, with the creation of a big fleet in mind.

-------

Research teams are being put on a new discovered alloy, called Eutonium. The special alloy is created when certain materials are bombarded with gamma rays, making it stronger with radiation.

-------

A small research team is trying to improve the range of the Hadron Technology. the focus of the study is the mass effect used on bending the space around the weapon, creating a more powerful effect on the beam.

OOC: I am back.

Lets roll.

OOC, I finally have a handwave to allow the Space is an Ocean physics we use.

Flight fields - they alter a ship's inertial vector to match its heading, so your velocity vector is always "fowards", with some leeway for fancy maneuvering. Incorporates antigravs.

Alternatively, you can turn it off and obey physics. Can be made really small, so fighters incorporate them.

I didn't know we did that. Since when?

Fifty thousand spectral kilometers from any habitable world, Julan Arthus relaxed. The Tien had nothing better to do; in fact, one could even say lounging about the long range scanning station was his day job. His duties as one of the six operators aboard a node of the Protectorate's DANET early warning system weren't exactly pressing, if even present most of the time. Monitoring the various sensors full time was hardly warranted when a beep from any of the six computers before him would serve the same end. No, most days he spent gazing not at the technical readouts, but at the viewport above them and the stars beyond. What manner of life waited in the darkness? Julan had heard rumors of an upcoming expansion of the network, supposedly intended to answer such previously easily answered questions...now that would be interesting. How they intended to move stations without engines would certainly pose-

BZZZZZRT a speaker in front of him exclaimed repeatedly, as if vindicated after years of disuse.

Julan nearly jumped out of his seat. He'd been on the job for but a few months, a space of time in which everything had remained normal.

Normal. He narrowed his eyes. How did it come about that not having to do that for which he was assigned became the standard, instead of the exception?

BZZZZZRT the speaker repeated, only a few seconds after the first alert. The third would automatically send a generated report to Naval Command on the presumption the crew was dead. Or worse, just pathetically incompetent. Not ideal.

Julan leaned forward in his black Intelligence tunic and hastily mashed the console's touchscreen. Where didn't matter, as long as it knew he was here. Sure enough, almost resignedly, the screen yielded from a delightfully spartan TNC screensaver to the report. The Tien glanced over it. Not debris, not incoming ships to be warned off, but a wideband message. He stroked his crest thoughtfully. The last time such a transmission had been received was at least a decade ago, if he remembered correctly. By then the galaxy at large had seemed to finally grasp the direction the Protectorate's politics had taken it and backed away.

He looked further down the report at the message itself.
Greetings. This is the Novan Commonwealth vessel Belfast to any recieving Taln vessel or station. Our government wishes to open communications with yours. Please respond negative or positive to this vessel.

...Novans? Julan leaned back. The Commonwealth rang a bell - every Tien schoolchild studied the Third Galactic War and its participants at some point - but the prefix did not. Some new faction must have arisen in the time since isolation. Human, most likely. Intriguing. In spite of DANET's surprisingly successful recruiting program's promises of regular interaction with strange species, he'd never actually seen a live specimen of the species.

Idly, he wondered if...no, unacceptable. There were policies, rules to be followed. What else is left when flesh fails? But still his wing lingered over the 'RESPOND' option on the panel before him. Think of the opportunities. A real live alien, here on the station! All he had to do was send them on their merry way outward with a negative in a day or two...Altern Haev would understand; didn't she major in xenobiology? Command wouldn't have to know, didn't need to know...

::OUTBOUND MESSAGE::
::DANET NODE A342 -> NC BELFAST
Greetings. I am afraid that our long-range antennae have been wiped in a recent ion storm, and are still undergoing repairs. As such we are unable to relay a message on your behalf to headquarters at this time. You are, however, welcome to dock with this station and come aboard until such a communique is possible.

Taking several seconds, the massive ship jumped to slipspace. All systems operating normally, the support crew resigned to their quarters, the deck crew however engaging the passengers in varying activities. Everything was going well so far, and it'd only be a matter of days until they reached their first stop. Captain Laimx laid down to rest on the soft mattress, slowly closing his eyes to the nationalistically patterned colors of the room.

Similar so went for the vessels under command of Captain Belur as they sped towards a point in space, a point that would become the true first stop.

-NeoRoman Flagship Urilian, 500 KM above Ohijan-

Admiral Arkban watched the progress of the massive drilling platform from the bridge of the Urilian, patrolling it and keeping any hostile entities away. Ohijan was extremely odd. It was a massive crystal-like structure, two elongated pyramids stacked on each other's bases with a large trench running between them. And it was unassailable; too many planetary defenses, too many alternate AI cores. They had successfully removed one, only for another to come online. They had done this little dance 20 times now, and they had enough. So they were drilling the planet.

He looked at the drill and spotted the words N.R.S Holdrin on one of the plates. They had to cannibalize multiple ships to make this drill; the laser itself was merely an overcharged, extremely large Fusion Coil Splicer. And once the drilling was complete, they would detonate the ARK.

After a minute of watching or two, the massive red laser lowered in intensity and then shut off. Arkban looked at the holo-screen and read the words on it

-Drilling Complete-

Arkban picked up a small communicator. "Valyria, are you present?" he asked.

"I assume the drilling is complete," Valyria responded through the channel.

"It is. You know what to do?"

"Yes. I'm accelerating now." The channel shut off. Arkban moved over to the console and typed in a few commands, opening a fleet wide channel. "Prepare to jump on my mark." He paused for a minute or two. "5."

"4." Arkban noticed an increase in FTL fluctuations.

"3." Arkban's finger hovered over the prominant "JUMP" button

"2." Massive FTL fluctuations. Something was wrong.

"1." Arkban pressed the button and the ship accelerated millions of times past the speed of light. The ship suddenly lurched. Arkban was thrown against the wall behind him, pressed against the wall at multiple G's. He strained to look at the screen, and it was flashing a message.

WARNING: Extreme FTL disturbance.

Arkban braced himself, and after a second, the ship lurched and cut out of warp. Arkban was again thrown in the opposite direction, but not so harshly. Behind him, the officers and crew on the bridge were picking themselves up. Arkban hurriedly opened up a navigation map. After a few seconds, he stood back and gasped in horror.

They had jumped 10 parsecs past the Taln border in their haste. With a war-fleet and a ship with a weapon almost classified as a super-weapon. He smashed his fist on the console. "DAMMIT!" He turned around to the communication officer and pointed at him. "Activate distress beacon 665-IUY!"

Near Tien space, the Belfast dropped out of FTL, locating the station that responded to them earlier. The communications officer opened a link to the station, transmitting:

//
Thank you for your quick reply. Should you be agreeable, we would like to enter your space and dock, and we may be able to assist in repairs to your systems.
//

Over Novus, a full-scale battlegroup was being assembled. Bound for Kharak in the Andromeda galaxy, the 20-strong force seemed to be comprised mostly of smaller ships, and electronic warfare vessels.

Scouts are being sent to near systems. Objective : "Hope" Colonization project. 3 candidate systems are being surveyed and small SEED-ships are being sent to them.

Research on the special alloy is promising. The metal could sustain more damage if a layer of radiation could be used against it,increasing the molecular tenacity of the hull.

Ships are being build in great numbers, but in a strategic way : Each shipyard is building only one ship. But all shipyards are being used,so at each 72 hours,at least 76 ships are being delivered to the new fleet.
They are giving preference to easy-to-build ships like the Everest cruiser, the decomisioned model 'Ironshield" frigate and Nightingale interceptors.

Secondary research on gauss cannons is promising. Using a rotatory effect in conjuction with mass effect fields,we can decrease the lenght of the cannon, yet giving more power to it : The mass effect fields can minimize the mass of the projectiles, making it easier to launch then at greater velocities. Paired with the new GLADIUS sensor system,a 20% boost on this class of weapon firepower is considered.

Because kinetic weapons are not totally obsolete. Novus uses them primarily because a shell travelling at orbital velocity delivers the equivalent to its mass in explosives. As kinetic energy. With an AP tip.

Energy weapons do thermal or radiation damage, ballistics can throw just about anything you want them to.

Day 15 of the Games.

Over the past few days, ships had been peeling off from their patrols, one at a time, to rendezvous at the Ciirv system, a Strigiforme military system. The ships composed 10 fleets, with only 9 there. The 10th had just been retrofitted, with some unorthodox equipment. They now had superficial structures; external cargo canisters, gas storage bays, and the like. They looked, on the base, like a fleet of roving scavengers who had made a good deal with the Strigiforme a generation ago; all the ships were nearing the ends of their service lifetimes, and were all older, yet were still Strigiforme ships.

Even if they jumped with all these odds an ends stuck on, their Yttrium drives would alert any watchers that they were Strigiforme. That would be a major problem, had they not acquired 50 ships from private sellers. They had extracted the drives from these ships, ramped up their power to support the cruisers and destroyers, and then replaced the Yttrium drives. They also had more generic shield systems installed alongside their normal ones, so they wouldn't be noticed as easily.

Any scan by dock authorities now would show them as unidentified; their unaltered forms would come up as similar, but so could a dozen or more other ships. Any more difficult scan of their contents would show them as carrying little except some Yttrium, and their broadcasted flight plan would show that they had passed through Strigiforme space, and were on their way to resupply in some independent system.

The ships jumped, sending them to a point in empty space roughly along the trajectory from an independent world to the large EE market of Psi Serpentis, commonly called Serpentis. The ships jumped again, taking them down the route to Serpentis.

They stopped near the edge of the system; most ships did to avoid colliding with larger debris at near light speeds. They moved closer to the planet quickly, performing a brief communication with the port control to announce their intention to refuel and purchase necessities. They then moved into a trajectory to orbit Serpentis' larger moon. Upon orbiting the moon, they were scanned by a port worker from a station; this was expected to be more difficult, but they were able to provide forged documents and allowed the port to scan their ships to add to their registry under faked ship's IDs and data. The port worker probably didn't care too much about their ships; hundreds came through here, and most for similar reasons.

The fleet then continued their moon orbit, transmitting that they were going to burn to a planetary orbit to dock with the station.

This was when they made their move. As they swept to the dark side of the moon, they quickly shot out all the automated defences, and then from the back of the largest cruiser shot a collapsible Yttrium portal. The device had been compressed, and while it would never hold something like the Aiigaiion, it could fit some of the more mid-sized dreadnoughts, which was exactly what it did. The portal shot out, then fired to life, spewing out frigates, cruisers, and all of the ships originally stationed at Ciirv. The EE ships in system responded quickly, but this world was behind their lines; they didn't have nearly the buildup here as in the border worlds, and as such were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and firepower. The command centres on the planet likely got out a few messages, but they would take at least an hour to get to any nearby system of consequence, and by then all the Strigiforme ships would be in system and prepared to fight.

As for the world, while the Strigiforme would've liked to conquer it and cleanse it of the filth inhabiting it, they were short on time, and merely fired lasers at the surface from orbit, turning much of it to glass and causing a nuclear winter in areas that escaped.

In the Serpentis system, a Novan passenger liner in orbit saw the incoming Strigiforme ships. Raising navigational shields, the ship tur ed and accelerated out of the system.

Shortly thereafter, a significant portion of the Andromeda battlegroup and the 2nd Star Guards were forming up in Hahnsak, preparing for a mkve into MQR space.

The reprocessing of the debris leftover from the Imperium battle has been almost entirely completed. Due to the large personnel causalities, equipment stocks are next on the list of things to replenish as most of the available gear has been assigned to the cadets and troops barely manning the ships. Due to the need for new crews, the age restriction on joining has been lowered and the screening process relaxed. While it will take time to get all the initiates trained, this is a start. Resource projections for supplies are not looking well either, and the planetary collection raised by 200 more tonnes of all construction components and processed materials. To allow for this, all systems that are required to provide for the collection have been granted sufficient monetary bolstering to assure their ability to meet the harsh requirements.

OOC: Whats handwavium?!?

Gauss weaponry : Cheap and effective.

Usually,a 800-meter mass accelerator is capable of accelerating one 20 kg. slug to a velocity of 4025 km/s every two seconds. Each slug has the kinetic energy of 38 kilotons of TNT. With my research,i can miniaturize it to 500 or even 400 in lenght,so i can mount it in smaller ships.
