OOC: So 343 has employed us to write Halo 5 (because they're a shit)?
I'm going to assume that we're running multiple timelines because it would be really inconvenient to wait a month for two ships to dock. These don't really tie in with anything else, or if they do they can intersect at that point.
Dorem extended her umbilical and made contact with the Novan ship's airlock. The two unfamiliar ships docked, for the first time joining the Batii to another race. Karesh Nihen, Shihe Rahn, and the two other Alliance representatives, along with a xenobiologist that had acted as handler to the guests (NR scout crew), walked along the length of the umbilical to the airlock door where the ships met. The tube was just wide enough for four to stand shoulder-to-shoulder. Karesh Nihen placed a gel communication bead into his earpiece as they waited.
"Hakonnen." Nihen turned to face the xenobiologist.
The xenobiologist gave a gesture of acknowledgement, produced a datapad, and began speaking, "The atmosphere of the, ah, Novan ship is mostly nitrogen with a relatively small amount of oxygen, approximately twenty percent. Very similar to the atmospheric composition that we found was ideal to our human specimens. It should be enough but alert me if you feel a shortness of breath. Few toxic chemicals, not enough to be dangerous. The humans' cellular makeup is adequately different from our own, biological pathogens shouldn't be an issue. Yet."
There was a noise behind them as the linguist entered the umbilical followed by several ragged humans dressed identically, each accompanied by a batii handler. A few of them were vocal, speaking to each other or attempting to speak with their handlers, others were silent and appeared confused. The linguist made a sweeping motion with her arm and called to the group of humans. A few of them bobbed their heads. She then turned to the representatives and bowed to each one.
Rahn tilted her head at the humans.
"We're ready. Open the airlock."

Butik Space, NR contact area
Nearly simultaneously, the ships of the Butik fleet disengaged their slip-merge drives and entered realspace. The commander gave the order to charge weapons, but hold fire.
