A single lightyear? Standard, universal FTL drives can travel through 1 meager lightyear in scarcely 2 days. I expect you have fleets waiting 1.00000001 lightyears away.
Hello. I'm a filthy atheist heathen who visits the internet from time to time.

Re: free market support
You are close enough to the Strigiforme that any military action toward you there would be treated as hostilities by the Strigiforme and incur diplomatic penalties.
Prototype, I advise not to go to the Lyat system. It's quarantined for a reason. There's something there... something terrible.

Re: free market support
It's more horrifying, dangerous, twisted, destructive than the statue could ever be.
Also, things tend to be... lost... when they go to the system. They probably fall through the fabric into another dimension, or maybe into nonbeing.

You sure? Have you SEEN me? Actually no. You haven't. AND YOU NEVER WILL! [INSERT EVIL LAUGH HERE]. Why don't you just spill the metaphorical (or literal) beans?

Re: free market support
*Knocks over a can of beans*
There.
In all seriousness, we don't really know what exactly is there. For humans and other creatures with enhanced psionic abilities, they say there is something immensely powerful and dangerous and evil there. That needs to be destroyed after a countdown ends, and not before.
We don't know what this countdown is, or when it ends, but they saw we will know when it does. We have psionics stationed near the system to sense this.
(DO NOT TAKE THIS ANY FURTHER- I AM ALREADY GOING TO TIE IT INTO THE PLOT)
