Probably, but just the same it's ideal to have an outside, unbiased force deal with stuff like that.

At the very least casualties on both sides would suffice for either faction to create their own version of the events that transpired.

Fine. The Taln fleet decants from hyperspace directly in front of the Cavnin fleet. The railguns, already aimed, blast two gaping holes through one of the Excelsiors. The Sentries immediately open fire on the other Taln ships, firing rippling broadsides that peel their hulls open and liquify the insides. There are no survivors.

Now, you can have that, or you can have the concise answer and save a few of your ships. My goal here is to convince you that making me tell a story is a bad idea.

That post was made out of sarcastic indignation if anything else.

I don't really care how my fleet fares, I just want us to have a stable framework here for deciding battles that doesn't leave stuff to chance disgruntlement the way having the two feuding factions coming to an agreement would. Jedi gave an answer, but he didn't specify what exactly happened until I asked, at which point he decided all my stuff was deaded with a warning not to request writing of him.

No godmodding, let me explain the chain of events that brought you to the corner:

1.I've secretly sent Zealots to your planet. They began to use propaganda.
2. As nobody disturbed them they quickly turned the mob against you. The desprate people and loose society are a perfect growing ground for rebellion.
3. Slowly the whispers grew to a powerful song for liberty. The mob is against you, waiting for your desision.
4. Finally the mob saw no action and came to claim their rights directly to you.
5. Finally at this point the mob became troops for me, a weapon just like my zealots and fleets, and the choice of how to deal with them is up to you.

Oh. Then I´ll hold a speech to calm the folks down and tell them that we are, in fact, doing something to stop these warmongers and that the declaration of war caught us by surptise, but we are preparing the 1st Fleet for engagement.

The main struggle Ivan will have is that the society long lost their trust in him (social score 2 ) and only needed a small push with a small alternative. There is only one way out - let's see if you figure it out (I actually hinted at it)
